Is Walmart's Affordable Storage Shed Worth Buying? Here's What We Know
Between stashing away BBQ tools in the winter and hiding ugly garden hoses in the summer, there are endless possibilities for adding a shed to your backyard. That is, if the budget allows. Have you seen the prices of storage sheds, lately? It's not every day that you see one in the $100 range, but Walmart came through with the Asofer 6'x4' Outdoor Storage Shed. Originally $499.99, this item is now available to snag for $129.99, meaning you get to save a whopping $370. We love a good deal as much as we love talking about them, so we did some digging to find out if this product is worth running to Walmart for — or, in this case, clicking "Add to cart." The answer is a resounding yes based on the reviews.
The specs are pretty straightforward at first glance. The unit is constructed from galvanized steel and measures 75.6 inches long, 48.5 inches wide, and 71.3 inches tall. Weight-wise, it's around 107 pounds, and, as per Walmart's description, comes delivered in two boxes. Included are the accessories needed for installation, plus an instruction manual (albeit a bit confusing at times). And finally, there are three colors to choose from: dark gray, green, and brown.
There's more to Walmart's storage shed than its unbeatable price
The discounted price tag easily makes Walmart's storage shed better than building your own DIY shed or looking elsewhere, but that's not the only reason behind its 4.5 (out of 5) rating. For starters, the entire structure is UV-protected and best yet, waterproof. One reviewer vouched, "It's sturdy, [and] has remained completely dry inside even during some heavy rainfall." You'll want the rooftop to align to a tee, though. If not, rainwater will make its way inside.
Speaking of inside, double (and lockable) doors make loading and unloading bulky items a breeze. We also like that the shed has vents along the top, so things don't get moldy from lack of airflow. Expect "excellent storage space," as one 5-star shopper puts it. To give you a better idea, here's everything another reviewer managed to fit inside their garden shed: "a 12 [feet] pool, pool cleaning equipment, 2 deck chairs, 2 camping chairs, 2 scooters, gardening equipment including a spade and fork." After all this, they had "plenty of room" to spare.
While the pros sound promising, there's one major feature that many other sheds have but this one doesn't: a foundation. Do you really need a foundation for your storage shed, you ask? Yes, if you don't want your unit to fly away with the wind or sink into the ground. Make sure the floor below is level and secure the shed with metal anchors for better stability. But other than that, it should be good to go — unless you're one of the unlucky ones who receive a shed with manufacturing defects, delivery damages, and/or missing parts.
