Furnishing a house is expensive, so it can be tempting to cut some corners and opt for the cheapest dining chairs you can find. It's best to instead spend the extra money upfront and purchase good quality wood furniture in a relatively timeless style. 

While acrylic dining chairs may seem like a good cost saving option, there's a good reason Jeremiah Brent and many others are avoiding this trend. Not only do they have the potential to look dated quickly, but acrylic often shows scratches and wear. Velvet or polyurethane dining chairs are also popular and affordable options that may look appealing at first glance. This is where wood truly shines. Not only is it timeless, but it can also be easily cleaned. You can even refinish your wooden chairs yourself if they eventually begin to show their age. 

While wood dining chairs are certainly worth spending money on, you may be able to find them for surprisingly affordable prices if you know where to look. Your local thrift store can often be a treasure trove of stunning but neglected furniture that just needs a little love to be brought back to its former glory. Estate sales are also an excellent place to find valuable wood furniture at affordable prices.

Once you've decided to go with wood chairs for your dining room, you'll have to decide if you want to spend the extra money to buy solid wood. A lot of wood furniture is actually made of engineered wood with wood veneer on top. These options can seem appealing due to their lower price point, but they often lack the longevity that solid wood furniture is known for. While there are ways to fix dents and cracks in engineered wood furniture, it will likely never be as durable as solid wood alternatives. The use of low quality engineered woods is why many people advise against buying wood furniture at Walmart and similar stores.  

Be sure to consider comfort as well when picking out wood chairs. Chairs with scooped seats are generally thought of as more comfortable than flat seats, but take your time and test out different chairs to find the most comfortable style for you. Just because you opt for wooden chairs doesn't mean you can't put cushions on them too. You could even purchase something like the Love's Cabin memory foam chair cushions for extra comfort.
