Popular Laundry Sheets Ranked From Worst To Best, Based On Reviews

There are several reasons why you might want to try switching to liquidless detergent sheets. They're convenient because they remove the mess of measuring liquids or powders. They're usually lightweight, compact, and also packaged in recyclable cardboard, eliminating the extra weight and waste of a large plastic bottle. Marketed toward eco-conscious consumers, many also have gentler ingredients than traditional detergents. If you want to switch over to one of the best laundry sheets on the market, we're here to help you choose which one.

Despite their convenience, there are some hidden downsides to using laundry detergent sheets. They often receive mixed ratings and users complain they aren't as effective as traditional detergents, especially against tougher messes and stains. Conversely, others find laundry sheets work just fine for their everyday needs and come with great environmental and space-saving benefits. To help you find the right laundry sheet solution, we've ranked the following products according to shopper reviews, ordering them based on their overall rating out of 5 stars. We took testing into account, too, if we've already tried and reviewed the product individually. The sheet brands gathered here each have over 1,000 reviews (many well over 10,000) and over 4 stars overall. You can find more information on our selection methodology at the end of this article.

We would recommend all of these sheets for different reasons, but we've still listed them from worst to best based on overall reviews. If you're going to make the switch, just be sure you avoid this laundry detergent sheet mistake, and follow the correct order to load your laundry (which can differ between brands). Here's our ranking of some popular laundry sheet brands.

10. Cleancult Laundry Detergent Sheets

Though Cleancult's Laundry Detergent Sheets come in at number 10 on our list, this product is still highly rated and comes with a few appealing features. To help eliminate stains, these sheets include three enzyme blends for breaking down protein-, fat-, and mannan-based stains (the latter can come from items like chocolate and toothpaste). For those looking for a clean ingredients list, these sheets are made without dyes, SLS, SLES, parabens, phthalates, phosphorus, phosphates, and 1,4-dioxane. They also come in distinctive scent options like Juniper Sandalwood, which helps them stand out from typical detergents. Other scent options include Fresh Linen, Wild Lavender, and the unscented option Free & Clear.

However, with a 4.3-star average rating from more than 1,100 Amazon reviews, this product is rated lower than other options on our list, which is why it occupies this last-place spot. Plenty of customers are happy with it, though, as 67% of reviewers gave it a full 5 stars. Here's what one reviewer noted about the Wild Lavender option: "I was amazed with how well it took out old deodorant stains, dirt, grease, neck collar grime ... all without my usual pretreatment on clothes. I use two sheets per super load and these dissolve instantly ... The scent is light, even with two sheets, but it still has a beautiful lavender smell." Some less-satisfied reviewers noted the scent doesn't stick around for long, though this might be a benefit for those who prefer a more subtle smell. Other unhappy reviewers reported that the sheets didn't have the cleaning power they expected, especially for heavily soiled items like gardening clothes.

9. Beyond Laundry Detergent Strips

Beyond Laundry Detergent Strips are both EPA- and USDA-approved — that's two third-party certifications that prove these sheets' eco-friendly ingredient list and low environmental impact. The EPA Safer Choice certification means each ingredient in this product is reviewed and found to meet strict safety criteria (for both human consumers and the environment) while offering comparable performance to conventional products.

The USDA "biobased" certification indicates that the product or packaging is made of a certain percentage of renewable biological ingredients. These detergent strips contain 55% USDA-certified biobased content. For the eco-conscious, these are great certifications to see on a laundry sheet product and are part of why these sheets made our list, even though they ultimately came in ninth place. They're made in North America, are free of animal ingredients, and are also not tested on animals. Beyond these certifications, the sheets are gentle and free of chlorine, dyes, optical brighteners, phosphates, and parabens. They come in a small, envelope-like package (priced at $8.52 as of this writing), so they're great for storing in very small spaces, like in a suitcase while traveling.

With a 4.4-star average rating from over 1,900 Amazon reviews, they beat the previous sheets in our ranking by just a small portion of a star rating. Around 69% of reviewers give the product a perfect 5 stars. Many mentioned liking the small packs for travel, with one reviewer saying, "We backpacked through Europe. We brought these so we could stop and wash our clothes. Worked perfectly! Great smell. Cleaned well ... They are good for sensitive skin!" Some reviewers do note, however, that because of the small pack, they're not as cost-effective as buying similar products in bulk.

8. ECOS Laundry Detergent Sheets

ECOS is a fairly well-known brand for gentle, plant-based laundry detergents. It's WBENC-certified (which validates that it's at least 51% owned, controlled, or managed by women), and it's a partly Black-owned business. The plant-based formula for ECOS' Laundry Detergent Sheets includes stain-busting protease enzymes, is 100% vegan, and isn't tested on animals (backed by a Leaping Bunny certification). It doesn't contain dyes, brighteners, parabens, phosphates, or any of the 500+ harsh ingredients that ECOS bans from all its products.

Though ECOS' sheets only have a 4.4-star average rating, we ranked this product in eighth place because it has more reviews — almost 4,000 on Amazon, 72% of which give it a full 5 stars. This means more happy customers overall, earning these sheets a higher spot on our list. One satisfied customer noted that these sheets are "Plant-based and cruelty-free, not tested on animals, and works great!" They went on to describe that their skin "is highly reactive to scents, dyes, and additives — and this doesn't bother it!" Some reviewers, however, noted that the sheets left residue after washing, though this is a complaint you may see under almost any laundry sheet product.

7. Clean People Laundry Detergent Sheets

Clean People Laundry Detergent Sheets are super concentrated and come in an extra-compact box, perfect for those who want a small but bulk option. You only need ¼ sheet for a small load, and the compact box fits up to 96 loads' worth of detergent. The sheets are perforated down the middle for ease of use. Compact packaging often means a smaller environmental footprint since it's easier to ship, and better yet, these sheets are made in Canada, meaning they don't need to be shipped overseas to reach the U.S.

For those who like a distinctive scent, these sheets offer lots of fragrance options, including Fresh Scent, Fragrance Free, Spring, Sweet Petals, and Peppermint. They're vegan and not tested on animals. Like many other laundry sheets, they're free of dyes, chlorine, parabens, phosphates, phthalates, chlorine bleach, ammonia, or 1,4-dioxane.

This product came in seventh on our list for its high reviews, with a 4.4-star average rating from nearly 16,000 Amazon reviews. We ranked it higher than the previous product because it has over 10,000 5-star ratings, which is more than the total ratings of ECOS' laundry sheets. About 69% of reviewers give these sheets a full 5 stars. One reviewer wrote, "They dissolve so quickly, seem to work well, and none of my family have had reactions to either the detergent sheets or the fabric softener dryer sheets. The box takes up minimal space, compared to the other types of detergent I have used." A few negative reviews, however, mentioned that the product has trouble dissolving and left some residue behind in the washer drum. Again, this is a common complaint for detergent sheets in general, so you may want to test how they work with your laundry habits. Other reviewers noted that these sheets are more expensive than other eco-friendly laundry sheets. At $0.33 per load (for the bulk option), the Clean People laundry sheets certainly aren't the cheapest, but they are comparably priced against options like Kind Laundry and Sheets Laundry Club.

6. Sheets Laundry Club Laundry Detergent Sheets

Sheets Laundry Club Laundry Detergent Sheets are another top-rated option on Amazon that also come in a bulk size. With 50 sheets in a box, you can clean up to 100 loads. Unlike the other products on this list, these sheets come in a thicker, more solid storage box rather than a thin cardboard box or envelope that may be too flimsy for long-term storage. The box even slides out for easy access. It's still cardboard, though, so it's recyclable. Like the other top products on our list, these detergent sheets are made with the environment in mind. They're Leaping Bunny certified, which means they're cruelty-free. They're also free of bleach, dyes, parabens, phosphates, and phthalates.

Sheets Laundry Club Laundry Detergent Sheets take the sixth spot on our list because of the product's high reviews. It has a 4.4-star average rating from over 28,500 Amazon reviews, and 70% of those give the product 5 stars. As one reviewer put it, "I'm on my second box and these laundry sheets work well. They come in a box with a pullout 'drawer' that's easy to store. The sheets themselves are soft and flexible." Some reviewers reported being disappointed that these sheets aren't made in the U.S., but the brand has stated that they are in the process of shifting production stateside. While these sheets deserve a spot on our list because they're some of the most popular laundry sheets on the market (based on how many reviews they have), they do have a lower average rating than the options ahead.

5. Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets

With nearly 90,000 ratings on Amazon, the Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets were one of the most popular options we encountered. With a 4.4-star average rating, they stack up pretty well against the competition, landing them in fifth place. We tested the Earth Breeze laundry sheets firsthand and found them effective for cleaning laundry. We washed a load on a color-safe cool cycle, and the resulting laundry was clean and lightly fragranced. They were less perfumed than the load we compared it to, which we washed with Gain liquid detergent. After drying, the items smelled neutral and fresh. The sheets did leave some residue in the washing machine drum, but not on the clothes themselves. Some other reviewers also had this problem, noting that the sheets didn't always fully dissolve in cold water, though this experience does vary between users.

For each purchase, Earth Breeze donates 10 loads' worth of laundry detergent to those in need. The brand belongs to 1% For The Planet, meaning it donates 1% of its revenue to nonprofits. The company also offsets its carbon for the manufacturing and shipping process. Its products are vegan, cruelty-free, and free of parabens, dyes, bleach, phthalates, and phosphate.

Over 60,000 reviewers (68% of the product's 90,000 ratings) gave these sheets 5 stars. One positive review said, "One of the main reasons I decided to try these sheets is their eco-friendly nature. They're plastic-free, biodegradable, and help reduce my carbon footprint. It feels great to support a product that prioritizes sustainability while still delivering excellent cleaning power." Many reviewers had no trouble with these sheets' cleaning performance or with any leftover residue.

4. Kind Laundry Detergent Sheets

Coming in fourth place, Kind Laundry Detergent Sheets are next up on our list. This product has a range of attractive ingredients, including enzymes, which help remove protein stains like food, blood, and sweat. These plant-based and cruelty-free sheets also contain camellia japonica oil, which helps degrease and soften laundry, as well as kaolin, a mineral clay that cleans and deodorizes, according to the brand. The ingredients list is free from dyes, phosphates, parabens, phthalates, optical brighteners, formaldehyde, 1,4-dioxane, and starch.

These laundry sheets have a 4.5-star average Amazon rating from over 5,600 reviews, with 74% of reviewers giving the product a full 5 stars. One reviewer said of their experience, "I've been using these sheets for years and they do a good job of cleaning my clothes without any residue like other clean pods I've used in the past. The fragrance is mild. I like the minimal, recyclable packaging." For those who don't want any scent, these sheets are also available in a fragrance-free version.

3. Arm & Hammer Power Sheets Laundry Detergent

If you want highly rated laundry sheets from a trusted brand, then Arm & Hammer Power Sheets Laundry Detergent is a good choice. If Arm & Hammer is already on your list of go-to cleaning brands, then these sheets are worth a try as a more eco-friendly alternative to its liquid laundry jugs. The bulk pack can handle up to 100 loads, which is ideal for busy laundry rooms. Each sheet is perforated for easy measuring. The sheets are free of phosphates, bleach, or brighteners, and they're not tested on animals.

On Amazon, they've earned a 4.5-star average rating from over 14,400 reviews, 72% of which gave them a full 5 stars. They're in our third-place spot because they have more reviews than the previous product. Unsurprising from one of these more "traditional" laundry brands, some reviewers note the fragrance is quite strong. Compared to the other sheets on this list, they might give you a more noticeable fragrance that sticks around (compared to most sheets, which usually have little to no fragrance). As one reviewer noted, "These actually work! They smell so good too. I don't use fabric softener when using these because the scent sticks to your clothes. It definitely comes in handy if you are traveling eliminating the need to carry around laundry detergent and fabric softener. I highly recommend these!" For those with sensitive skin, a fragrance-free version is also available on Amazon.

2. Tru Earth Laundry Detergent Sheets

Tru Earth Laundry Detergent Sheets come in second place on our list, not only for their high 4.5-star average rating (out of almost 30,000 reviews), but because they also performed well in our hands-on testing. Here at House Digest, we compared the Tru Earth Laundry Strips to a liquid detergent and got some great stain-lifting results. Compared to a more conventional detergent (in this case, Persil Non-Bio liquid detergent), these sheets worked very well, removing tough stains and making our test fabric look brighter and cleaner overall. The sheet also dissolved completely and didn't leave any residue behind.

The Tru Earth sheets were easy to use, as they're perforated for convenient portioning. They come in a variety of appealing scents that are reminiscent of traditional laundry detergents, with names like Sun Kissed, Autumn Glow, Fresh Linen, and Lilac Breeze — and there's a fragrance-free option for the more sensitive. Along with being vegan and free of parabens, phosphates, dyes, bleach, and animal testing, this product is made in Canada, lessening its environmental impact for American consumers.

On Amazon, these sheets have a 4.5-star average rating out of over 29,700 reviews. Over 20,000 of these reviewers (or 72%) gave it 5 stars. One reviewer praised the sheets' cleaning power, saying, "We are using this product for everyday loads of laundry of all kinds. They come out fresh and clean, even the toughest gym clothes. I bought it to reduce plastic use but it exceeded my expectations on that and every level." Some critical reviews noted, however, that these sheets aren't always effective on very smelly or heavily soiled laundry loads.

1. Grove Co. Laundry Detergent Sheets

With a 4.6-star average rating on the brand's website, which has more than 3,100 reviews, Grove Co. Laundry Detergent Sheets take our ranking's number one spot. Many reviewers appreciated the mild but distinctive fragrances available, like Lavender Blossom & Thyme and the limited-edition Harvest Apple. These sheets give users the satisfaction of a more complex scent (which is often associated with traditional detergents and harder to find in natural ones), but they use 100% natural fragrances. They're also made without parabens, phthalates, dyes, or optical brighteners. This product is vegan, certified cruelty-free, and comes in FSC-certified packaging that meets strict environmental standards. Additionally, Grove is a B Corporation, meaning it meets the high social and environmental standards set by the B Lab nonprofit.

In addition to these sheets' high rating on Grove Co.'s website, they have a similar rating (albeit out of just a few hundred reviews) on Amazon. Those who took the time to review this product seem to like it, with one person writing, "These completely dissolve even in a cold wash and leave no residue or mess. The boxes are so compact saving you space in your laundry room. These are super portable ... and I like that these are unscented."

Methodology

We ranked the products on this list according to shopper reviews. Products with higher ratings and a larger number of reviews earned a higher spot on our list. Though they are ranked, we would recommend all of these sheets for different reasons, so it's worth considering each product's distinctive features.

After all, each package of laundry sheets has at least 1,000 reviews (though many have much more) and over 4 stars overall. With these numbers to back them up, it's clear that a large contingent of people are happy with every laundry sheet on our list. But just like any cleaning product, finding the right laundry sheets can come down to trial and error and selecting the option that works for your needs, whether it's one that comes in your favorite scent or one packed with enzymes for removing stains. If you're looking for the most affordable options instead, consider checking out the top eco-friendly laundry sheets, ranked by price.
