Back in the 1970s, a man by the name of Roy Jacuzzi brought the mechanical jetted tubs that would become his namesake to the market. Over the next couple of decades, luxury bathrooms were given ever higher priority in homes, and by the 1990s, the indulgent Jacuzzi tub was everywhere. However, enthusiasm for these large, loud bathroom fixtures has waned, and as the next quarter century dawns, interior designers and decorators are saying goodbye to the bathroom feature in 2025.

While the idea of soaking for long hours in a tub full of hot water while mechanical jets massage sore muscles is certainly appealing, the reality of having a Jacuzzi tub in the home environment quickly dissolved the fantasy. Not only do the machines themselves have their drawbacks, like noise, cost, and maintenance, but they also aren't exactly DIY-renovation friendly. Due to the complexities of the installation, it is highly recommended to call in a professional. There's even been some concern about whether or not they're sanitary. All of which has meant that Jacuzzi tubs are now one of the things in your bathroom that is making it feel outdated.

Noise isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a Jacuzzi tub, but when you consider the mechanized equipment required to pump all that water around, it makes sense that these tubs are loud. A reality that isn't exactly in line with a luxury spa experience. Plus, they can be significantly more expensive up front than traditional bathtubs, with jetted tubs coming in around $500 on the low end, and standard tubs coming in closer to $200. And that's before you consider the cost of professional installation. Further, Jacuzzi bathtubs use more water than a standard bathtub and often require their own heaters or a dedicated electrical circuit. This means they are more costly to operate, adding hundreds of dollars more a year to your water and utility bills.

Maintenance, however, may be the most compelling reason to eliminate a Jacuzzi from the list of things you need to create the perfect spa-like bathroom. They are harder to clean, especially considering that those machines and pumps can get gunked up over time. And nothing extinguishes the fantasy of a luxurious soak than the reality that you'll have to spend a shoulder-wrenching half hour afterward cleaning it. Designers and home decorators are instead looking toward soaking tubs or even walk-in showers as superior options to create a spa-like experience in the bathroom. They're quieter, often cheaper, lower maintenance, and all you have to do to enjoy the experience is turn the water on and step inside.
