DIY An Adorable Outdoor Plant Stand With A Basic Dollar Tree Bowl

If you're looking for some inspiration for brightening up your outdoor space and better displaying your smaller potted plants, consider turning a Dollar Tree bowl into an adorable outdoor plant stand. It's an affordable and easy DIY project that will allow you to get as creative as you wish. YouTube's Country Lily DIY Decor cleverly opted to create a ladybug flowerpot stand, but you can let your imagination run wild, and devise other designs using the same process.

To create your own flowerpot stand you'll need a Royal Norfolk Glazed White Bowl from Dollar Tree or another simple bowl with a diameter of around 6 inches. Then, locate some chalk paint in your chosen colors, and get a few paint brushes or round-ended sponges. You'll also need Mod Podge for sealing your design. You can opt for either Mod Podge Matte Sealer or Mod Podge Gloss Sealer, depending on your preference.

Create your adorable plant stand

To get started, paint your bowl in the base color of your design. Remember to cover the bowl entirely, including the base, rim, and a little way inside the bowl. Avoid making common chalk paint mistakes, like using too much paint and not letting the paint dry sufficiently between coats. You could even avoid this base coat step by purchasing a colored bowl instead of a plain white one. Dollar Tree has a range of different colored bowls, and the Royal Norfolk Red and White Stoneware Bowl could be perfect for creating a ladybug.

Once the initial base color has dried, it's time to apply your design. Consider sketching your desired design onto paper first, and then adjust it to fit the round shape of the bowl. Take a look at a few garden ornaments to enhance your outdoor space if you need inspiration. Using your round-ended sponge brush, create your desired embellishments with the paints you've selected. If you're particularly arty, you can use your trusty brushes to paint some freehand motifs over the sides of the bowl. For something a little different, grab a few leaves from the garden, and use them as a stencil outline. Consider keeping with the garden theme by painting flowers, bees, turtles, or even beetles. If you're not confident in your artistic skills, you can always make colorful geometric shapes or perhaps a vibrant rainbow. As you let your imagination take hold, you're sure to come up with unique ideas you'll want to try.

Seal and display your plant stand

Once you've finished creating your masterpiece, it's time to let it dry. Finally, cover your artwork with some Mod Podge in either a matte or gloss finish. When this has fully dried, your plant stand is ready to be displayed. Just adorn it with your favorite flowerpot. If you wish, you can purchase a small terracotta pot to fit on the base of the upturned bowl. Paint it in a color to match your stand, or just use any petite pot you have at home. And don't forget that there are plenty of other common household items that you can turn into beautiful planters.

But don't stop there! Think about getting some other bowls in different sizes and creating a series of related artworks on them. Then you can group them on your outdoor table or bench, adding even more whimsy and color to your outdoor area.
