Create A Dazzling Spherical Vase For Faux Florals With Dollar Tree Book Rings

Bringing retro glam decor into your home can lend endless style to even the most basic interior. While more intricate and elaborate gilded or crystal pieces can be purchased from home retailers, there are also countless ways to add a little sparkling DIY magic to your home that can be fully customized to your aesthetic. One ingenious project involves creating a beautiful vase out of 1-inch metal book rings from Dollar Tree and embellishments like Amazon's OwnMy rhinestone crystal buttons. Since the 10-pack of book rings only costs $1.25, you can likely create even a large vase for a budget-friendly price, though the exact number of packs you need depends on the desired size of your vase.

This project is perfect for placing faux flowers and greenery in or just serving as a stylish empty vessel. It can also be made into a beautiful holder by resting a pillar candle in the bottom, which will filter through the sides and add extra sparkle. You could also add a chain to three sides to create a hanging lantern to hold tea lights or LED lights for a funky industrial glam aesthetic.

Creating a vase from metal book rings

To create this unique vase and decorate the glam room of your dreams, begin by blowing up a balloon to the desired size of your vase. Begin gluing the metal rings around the perimeter of the balloon with a hot glue gun, attaching them to each other instead of the balloon. Try to place them evenly around the balloon in alternating rows to eliminate any awkward gaps you may have to cover up later. This may be tricky with the shape of the balloon, but hot glue does allow some maneuverability as it dries in case you need to make adjustments.

When the balloon is covered with rings everywhere but the top opening and the glue is dry, pop and remove the balloon. You can leave the rings as they are or spray paint the piece another metallic color. After the paint has dried, hot glue the crystal buttons directly to the rings. You could also go button-free and allow the rings to create their own patterning and interest, like by overlapping the rings or interlocking them before gluing them around the balloon for a cool chainmail effect.

While this DIY favors a romantic glam style, make it your own by using different paint finishes for the rings and different varieties of buttons. For a more boho look, opt for wooden buttons, like these pierced flower wood buttons. For a chic textured variation, paint the rings gold or brass and add some beautiful velvet or Dupion fabric buttons. If you use the 2-inch book rings, you could also dangle small glass crystal chandelier prisms from each opening.
