The Budget-Friendly DIY To Create A Beautiful Floral Vase From A Plastic Bucket

No matter the season, it can be nice to bring a pop of color to your space with flowers. If you don't like how cut flowers fade, you can even use faux foliage or learn how to keep your cut flowers fresh longer. But, no matter the type of flowers, a creative vase can help incorporate your flowers into your decor. Find a plastic bucket, and you will be on your way to creating this unique design!

Start this project by purchasing a bucket. For example, these Valentine's Day plastic buckets with lids could work well, but the design on the buckets does not matter. You'll also want to grab some paper towels, leftover cardboard, ribbon, and string or yarn. The color of these items is unimportant, as you will be covering the entire surface with paint and other supplies. You will also need some primer, PVA glue, and cold porcelain clay.

While you can purchase the porcelain clay, it is also fairly simple to make. Start by mixing a cup of washable school glue, a cup of cornstarch, a tablespoon of baby oil, and a tablespoon of lemon juice in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the mixture at 50% power for three minutes, stirring it every 30 seconds. Then, add a tablespoon of cold cream, like Nivea moisturizer, and knead it into the clay. Seal the clay in a plastic bag and when cool, it's ready to use.

How to create a floral vase from a plastic bucket

To create this beautiful floral vase, the Sartes YouTube channel says to start by coating the vase in the primer. Then, cut your cardboard into equal sized strips that are the length of your bucket. Using the PVA glue, glue the strips of cardboard to the bucket so that there is an even space between each cardboard piece. Next, separate the two layers of a piece of paper towel, and using the glue, cover the cardboard. After gluing those down, wrap ribbon and yarn around the top edge of the bucket and the handle. The goal of all these pieces is to add texture to the bucket. Feel free to get creative with what you use to help add personality to your vase.

For the next part of this project, take the porcelain clay and add details to the vase. You can add flowers and vines, or any other design that you like. For instance, you can add clay shells and starfish for a coastal look. Finally, paint the entire bucket in the colors of your choice. Use different brushes and sponges to add more texture. Your new design will be perfect for some cut flowers or even a potted plant.
