DIY A Two-Drawer Organizer For Small Items Using Repurposed Cardboard Boxes

If you have a pile of cardboard boxes taking up too much space inside your home, think twice before throwing them away. There are so many different DIY projects you can create with old boxes that there really isn't any reason to dispose of them if they are in decent shape. For example, you can build a two-drawer organizer using repurposed cardboard boxes in just a few steps. All you have to do is cut the flaps off of a small rectangular box to create the outside of your organizer and then cut and glue pieces of cardboard together to make your drawers.

You can place both drawers inside of the outer portion of the organizer once you are done assembling all components. If you plan to try this DIY out for yourself, consider really making it your own by using contact paper, paint, stencils, or other craft supplies to customize the organizer. You could also add labels to both drawers so that you know exactly what is stored inside of each one. All in all, this DIY is a clever way to repurpose cardboard boxes after a move or online shopping spree that left you with tons of boxes.

How to create and decorate your two-drawer organizer

To build this two-drawer organizer, start by grabbing a small rectangular box and cutting the flaps off of each side. Next, cut the top of the box at an angle as shown in the above video. Consider using a box cutter to do this so that you are left with super clean lines. At this point, you're ready to create your drawers. Take measurements of the inside of your organizer's frame and use them to determine the size of your drawer components.

Grab a larger box and cut the pieces for both drawers out of it. For each drawer, you will need three rectangular pieces of the same size and two square pieces of the same size. Now you're ready to customize all of your cardboard pieces before assembling them. If you would like to use contact paper, consider purchasing the Con-Tact Brand Creative Covering in a color of your choice. You could also use spray paint. A product like the Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray would allow you to give the organizer an eye-catching metallic finish, so it's a nice option if you prefer to make a statement with your decor.

After you're done decorating all of your cardboard components, assemble your drawers using a glue gun. You can then glue on small drawer knobs. Consider using the Woodpeckers End Grain Wood Knobs because you can easily paint the wood finish any color you want. Your final step is to slide your fully assembled drawers into place. Feel free to use your new organizer to store items like small craft supplies, makeup, bathroom essentials, or small hair accessories.
