Don't Throw Out An Old CD Collection - Here's A Home Decor Hack To Reuse It
More than just media lining our shelves, CDs are great time capsules for many of us as we think about the songs we've loved and played over the years. Since the arrival of CDs in 1982, artists have included liner art with lyrics and imagery, which are often just as interesting as the songs themselves. Streaming has changed the way we listen to music, but if you're still hanging on to a few CDs with artwork you love, you can actually reuse them for unique personalized art on a budget as shared by TikTok user @redeux_style.
With a repurposed elegant frame and a collection of your favorite cover art, it's easy to make a one-of-a-kind piece to show off the music of your heart from all of your favorite artists, whether you love Britney, Bowie, Ella, Prince, Rush, or any artist in between. There are many creative ways to repurpose CDs around your home, and this home decor hack can help you make use of the artwork and liner notes after you've done so.
Using CD liner notes and artwork to create a unique art piece
For this project, you'll need a frame large enough to house your CD booklets, which is a good reason to go thrifting for home decor (as if you needed one). To create her piece, @redeux_style used a 30 x 30 frame she found while thrifting and applied Rub n Buff Wax Metallic Finish to the frame for an antique gold look. Her frame didn't include glass, so she mounted the CD booklets on a piece of poster board which was measured to fit them, then stapled it to the frame. When actually placing your CD art, carefully remove the front page of the booklets if you're covering the artwork with glass or acrylic; if not, you can likely use the unaltered booklets. Use double-sided poster tape, glue, or your favorite adhesive to attach to the poster board.
Having a diverse selection of album art might enable you to create a theme as you style your DIY art. You could consider pleasing color combinations, such as a pattern of black and white, pink and brown, or yellow and green. Perhaps you've already embraced one of the trendy ways to style bookshelf decor: by color. Try following the same method when arranging the booklets, and do rows by hue, with red, white, blue, green, yellow, and purple all in the mix to form a rainbow on your wall.
