DIY A Storage Caddy For A Clutter-Free Space Using Old Soda Boxes
One item you can easily upcycle for storage uses is a cardboard soda box from the grocery store. You can easily and creatively create a storage caddy with a soda box that's perfect for almost any room in your home.
To get started, you will need at least three to four rectangular soda can boxes. Any type of soda box will work as long as they are all the same size. Just note that the larger your soda box is, the longer your caddy will be. You will also need some decoupage and packing paper to help make the project a little more sturdy and give you a nice surface to decorate. If you don't have any packing paper from a recent delivery available, you could also use a paper bag.
The other thing that will make this project both functional and beautiful is decoration. Design it in a way that will match your home's decor. For instance, you could paint the caddy a coordinating color to match your walls or make it a statement piece by covering it with some peel-and-stick wallpaper. The options here are pretty open. As long as your design choices don't interfere with the organizer's function, give them a try.
How to create this caddy organizer
Begin by taking two of the soda boxes and cutting the longest edge off of them so that one side is completely open. Using hot glue, put the two boxes together so that they form a square. Then, add a thick piece of cardboard to the bottom to reinforce it, and glue it in place. If you want one or both sides of your caddy to have more organization spaces, take your remaining soda boxes and cut the ends off of each side on an angle. (A sharp box cutter blade is best for this, but be safe!)
You have room in your caddy for four rectangular soda boxes to fit in standing up. Once you've created your cubbies with your soda boxes, cover the entire structure in decoupage and paper. This not only makes your caddy look nice, but it also protects it from moisture. Once you're done decorating, use an acrylic spray sealer or some ModPodge. This will help protect your new organizer.
This organizer could be great to keep office supplies neat on your desk, inside a drawer for socks, or in the pantry where it can hold plastic cutlery and paper products.
