How To DIY A Romantic Heart-Shaped Faux Topiary Using Dollar Tree Items
Topiaries make for artful and sophisticated additions to your garden or home interior. While fresh indoor topiaries require a bit of TLC to thrive, faux alternatives are an easy way to add interest and greenery to your space. The best part is it's easy to create a beautiful faux topiary using inexpensive crafting supplies, and a heart-shaped topiary can be just the thing to put love in the air this Valentine's Day.
There are fun faux topiary ideas to spruce up any season or holiday, and this Valentine's Day topiary project using Dollar Tree materials would be a frugal accompaniment to this DIY Valentine's Day wreath and this family-friendly pipe cleaner Valentine's garland to spread the love throughout your home this February 14. But as YouTuber Maria Carranza points out in her tutorial, this heart-shaped topiary makes a cute home décor item any time of year! You'll find everything you need for this project at Dollar Tree: a jumbo foam craft heart, several faux green foliage bushes, green acrylic paint for the heart, paint for the box, decorative moss, a wooden dowel, a floral craft foam block, a laser-cut "Love" sign (optional!), and a box.
Steps to make your own Dollar Tree heart-shaped faux topiary
YouTuber Maria Carranza made her own box for this project using wood pieces from Dollar Tree, which is handy if you have a specific size in mind. If you don't, save yourself the hassle and look for one premade at Dollar Tree like this adorable little box with handles and a decorative shiplap front. At 3-by-5 inches, it should work perfectly for this project.
First, paint the foam heart green. While it's drying, snip the foliage bushes into small sprigs to attach to the heart. Once the heart dries, poking small holes around it will help set the sprigs in place, and adding a little hot glue will make them extra secure. Cover the heart in the sprigs, working to spread out the foliage as you go. If you want to paint or stain your box and the wooden dowel, do so before adding the craft foam to the bottom of the box and the "Love" sign to the front. Carve a small hole at the heart's point for the wooden dowel and secure the dowel to the heart and craft foam block with hot glue. Finally, fill the rest of the box with decorative moss.
