How To Upcycle An Old Delivery Box Into A Cheap Storage Solution For Blankets And Pillows
After the holiday season, you may have a lot of extra boxes lying around your home. Or maybe you were gifted a few new throw blankets and pillows. Either way, this upcycle uses a cardboard box and a blanket may be the perfect cute and cheap storage solution for you. (Looking to add some new blankets to your home? The first thing you need to do to create this project is to find a quality cardboard box. You want the box to be large enough to fit all of the items in the space where you plan to use it. For instance, if you are looking for a container to hold the throw blankets in your living room, make sure the box is large enough to fit your folded blankets. You also want the box to be fairly sturdy so that this storage solution lasts a long time. A flimsier cardboard that can easily be bent may not be the best option.
You will also want to grab a cheap blanket that you can wrap around the box. Sometimes you can find these at the Dollar Tree, like this colorful peeps printed plush throw blanket, or you could use something you already have. You could also head to the fabric store and choose an on-sale fabric that matches your home's style to DIY a fleece blanket.
How to make this delivery box storage solution
To create this storage solution, start by reinforcing your cardboard box. This will allow the project to last longer. Go over the seams with additional tape or glue. You can also glue additional pieces of cardboard in the corners and on the bottom of the box.
Once the box is ready to go, simply wrap the throw blankets around the box as illustrated in the video, tucking the ends into the bottom of the box. There is no need to sew or tape the blanket down. This makes it easy to switch the style of your box if you want to change the blanket for different seasons or holidays. However, if you want to keep the design permanent, you could use a little hot glue in the corners and bottom of the box to keep the blanket more secure.
For the final step of this project, wrap some twine or a cute ribbon around the box a few times. You can then tie a bow at the end or find an inspirational sign to tie to the side. You could also use signs that you change out each season.
