DIY A Toilet Paper Storage Cabinet That Will Elevate Your Basic Bathroom

The funny thing about bathrooms is that they're usually the smallest rooms in the house. Yet, they are the spaces where we tend to use the most amount of personal care products. Whether it's haircare, skincare, styling tools, or oral hygiene products, the number of items we have to store in these tiny spaces can be quite a challenge. Toilet paper rolls, in particular, are tricky to store because they have to be kept nearby for easy access, but they're also not the most attractive thing to keep in plain sight either. If you're not fortunate enough to have a bathroom closet where you can store them, a DIY toilet paper storage cabinet is an excellent way to unlock extra storage in your bathroom.

Building your own cabinet from scratch allows you to customize the dimensions according to the size of your bathroom. However, if you'd prefer an easier DIY, you could also modify a bookshelf or a wall shelf into a cabinet. Additionally, you can add stylish touches to the cabinet to enhance your bathroom's aesthetic. In addition to being a clever bathroom storage idea to hide your toilet paper in style, you can also use the cabinet to keep other products like perfume or jewelry, or style it with decorative accessories like a candle or plant. Check out these DIY ideas below to create a chic storage cabinet where you can discreetly stash your toilet paper.

Ways to create a stylish toilet paper storage cabinet

If you want to create a custom cabinet, you could build it out of wood, or use MDF or plywood to save money. You'll need to determine your dimensions, cut your pieces, and assemble the cabinet with wood glue and screws. If that sounds like too much work, an easier solution would be to simply add doors to an existing piece of furniture like the Furinno 3-Tier Bookcase or the Cabilock Wooden Hanging Rack. All it takes is attaching a couple of cabinet door hinges. Once built, you could use your toilet paper cabinet as a floor piece, mount it on the wall, or even recess it into the wall. Prefer it to be mobile? Attach four caster wheels to the bottom, and you can move it around.

Want to add some custom style? Paint, of course, is the easiest way to transform your cabinet. You could paint it all one color, or use painter's tape or stencils to create a fun pattern. To give it a classic look, you could attach trim molding to the doors, or attach pole wrap on the facing to give the cabinet an ultra-trendy fluted look. For a pop of pattern, try lining the shelves or even the back of the cabinet with beautiful wallpaper or contact paper. Or, glue on some wood appliques like birds or rosettes to lend a romantic, hand-carved look. Don't forget to also add stylish cabinet pulls to the doors.
