Prevent Cold Drafts With An Easy-To-Install Door Curtain
A draft of cold air coming through your windows and doors makes it difficult to relax in your own home and can substantially increase your heating bills. This is often a result of poor insulation but can also indicate an issue with your door's installation or overall quality. Unfortunately, the fixes for these problems are often expensive and might require you to hire someone to help. Finding a new front door can be particularly costly. If you're looking for a quick, affordable, and easily accessible solution, consider purchasing a magnetic thermal door curtain.
A Bonlaces insulated door curtain sits around your door frame with hook-and-loop velcro strips and adhesives, and it won't take you more than a few minutes to install. The fixture stops bothersome currents of cold air from entering your home in the winter and also traps the cool air in your home during the summer. Magnets in the center of the curtain make it easy to pass through your entryway and help prevent the two sides from bunching up. @thereviewvideos on YouTube has a great overview of this product that shows us exactly how it works. Though Greg uses this curtain for his front door in the video, the covering is also a great method for insulating your interior doors. This can reduce your energy consumption.
How to install a thermal door curtain in your home
Before you put up your door curtain, determine whether it should sit over the inside or outside of the doorway. Thankfully, this product is designed to work on the outside of your house and comes with a set of pins for this exact arrangement. Generally speaking, however, your entryway will be less inhibited if your door swings away from the curtain. If the placement of the tacks means that they will puncture holes in your door frame, as one reviewer mentions they might, avoid using them. This will save you from having to figure out the proper way to use wood filler later on.
When you're ready to install your door curtain, attach the tape to the curtain first, rather than the door frame. As with similar adhesive products, clean the areas where the sticky tape will go with isopropyl alcohol so that everything stays in place for longer. Then, simply hang the curtain around the door and hold the tape in place for a minute or two so it stays. As an alternative to purchasing an insulated door curtain, you might want to try using Great Stuff gap foam to fill in the more noticeable cracks around your windows and door frames. Ravinte weather stripping door seal is also a great alternative for when the cold air is coming from below your door.
