The Romantic Valentine's Day Planter You Can DIY With Dollar Tree Boxes

When Valentine's Day is right around the corner, you may be looking for the best way to decorate the home for Valentine's Day. Whether you celebrate the day or not, this project is one that can add adorable DIY Valentine's Day decor to your home without going over the top. Simply pick up a few items from Dollar Tree, and you will be on your way to creating this beautiful flower box planter!

At Dollar Tree, you will find four dicut wooden gift box craft blanks. These small boxes will become the base for your planter. You will also want to grab two crafter's square wood plank hanging decor pieces. If you want to follow this design as is, you will also need to purchase some mini rustic wood love hearts, which can be found on Amazon. As it gets closer to February, you may also be able to find this, or something similar, at Dollar Tree.

Before making this design, you will also have to decide if you want to use real plants or fake flowers in the planter. If you want to use faux flowers, you can purchase some wildflower with greenery artificial flowers and some gentle grip green foam floral blocks at Dollar Tree. However, if you plan on using live plants, you'll want to grab a waterproof wood sealant like this polyurethane clear coat and a plant water drip tray. Of course, you will also want to pick up one of the best indoor plants for every room in your house.

Create the planter

Start this project by hot gluing the four boxes together with hot glue so that they are in one row. You can then take the long wood plank and glue one to each of the long sides. Fill in the small holes at the top of the plank with some wood putty, and sand it once it dries. This part is optional. If you like the look of the four separated boxes, you can leave the wood plank out. This is just there to provide a more cohesive look. Next, paint the project in a color to match your home. You can go subtle with the Valentine's Day theme or choose bright colors like pink and purple. Get creative! Paint the box one color and the hearts a different color or wrap the box in peel-and-stick wallpaper. Then, glue the hearts on the box. Add one heart for each box or add as many as you like!

Finally, glue the floral blocks inside each of the boxes and arrange the faux flowers. If you are using real plants, use a drill to add some holes to the bottom of each box in the planter, and sand it. Then, paint and coat it in a waterproof sealant. Add your favorite plants, and put a drip tray underneath to prevent water from ruining your other surfaces. Whether you decide to keep this project for yourself or give it as a gift to someone else, it is sure to put a smile on someone's face.
