Gain Stylish Entryway Storage With An Unsuspecting Kitchen Item From IKEA

Sometimes, shelves aren't an option in tight spaces. But a rail with matching hooks is a nifty vertical space solution for small kitchens. IKEA's HULTARP kitchen rail is a classic and dependable choice; at $9 a rail and available in brass, nickel-plated, and polished brass finishes, it can easily adapt to the décor of any kitchen set-up.

But why limit this rail to the kitchen alone? In her Instagram account, @Isabellasloft demonstrates the unsuspecting product's versatility by using it to gain stylish entryway storage, turning the dead space into a practical area for hanging clothes, bags, and other on-the-go accessories. Together with accompanying HULTARP kitchen hooks and several NEREBY hemp and cotton snap-on pouches, this kitchen staple becomes a useful addition to a home's entryway, and certainly saves on the floor space that a stand-alone coat rack would usually take up. And unlike single hooks and coat racks, using this kitchen rail allows so much more storage options because you can easily add and remove hooks and pouches from the rails according to your needs.

Use the hooks and pouches for organizing your daily routine

You can leave your entryway wall as it is, but the Instagrammer opted to spruce hers up with grey concrete stick-and-peel wallpaper. If you feel like adding a lick of paint, you can either choose a color from the hottest interior paint trends slated to dominate interiors in 2025, or keep it subtly elegant with a single shade for a monochromatic look.

Once your entryway wall is prepped and ready to go, affix the kitchen rods to the walls. Keep the recommended coat rack heights in mind when installing the kitchen racks: Allot 150 centimeters from the ground for men; 130 centimeters for women; and 90 centimeters for children from 7 years old and up. Add as many kitchen hooks and pouches as you need. The beauty of this entryway storage is that you can plan out your own organization system, appointing coats and bags to the highest rail, and hats and other accessories to the lower rung. Appoint pouches dedicated solely for keys, sunglasses, loose change, and pocket clutter to help streamline your early morning rush out the door.

To fully utilize your entryway's vertical space, you could add a small wall-mounted cabinet like IKEA's EKET just above the highest kitchen rod for storing seasonal accessories like gloves and scarves for winter, umbrellas and ponchos for fall and spring, and sun hats for summer. This makes it easy to swap them out and store them away when the seasons change, freeing up storage space in your closet for other things around the house in the process.
