Give Kitchen Appliances A Fun Upgrade Without Having To Swap Them Out

Though appliances make our kitchens functional, these oversized electronics aren't the most attractive things to look at every day, particularly if they're outdated. While you could always replace them or try your hand at painting them, that's not a feasible option if you happen to be a renter. Luckily, there's a way that you can completely change the look of your appliances without paint. Even better, it's completely reversible, so you can restore your appliance back to its original state when it's time for you to move out. The trick is to cover your appliances with removable adhesive products, such as washi tape or contact paper.

These products come in a wide range of vibrant hues and interesting patterns that can bring major style to a boring fridge or stove. If your appliances have seen better days, these products are also wonderful for covering up any unsightly scratches and dings. Plus, removable adhesives are affordable if you're looking to jazz up your kitchen without breaking the bank. In addition to offering you a clever, non-permanent method to upgrade your appliances, the process to apply washi tape or contact paper couldn't be easier. With just a bit of peeling and sticking, you can give your appliances some major new style.

Add style to your appliances with washi tape or contact paper

The first step in this brilliant hack to make your kitchen more aesthetic is to give your appliance a thorough cleaning with a degreaser to remove all traces of dirt and oil. You'll also want to remove the handles by removing the screws holding them in place. Next, plan your design. Think bold stripes, an elegant trim detail, or playful checkers! Looking to go big on color? The AOAPMN Washi Tape Set has everything you'd need to create a stunning technicolor effect. Perhaps you'd like to add vintage charm, and Jeweluck Floral Contact Paper would do the trick. Don't want to cover your entire appliance? Use Scotch's Metallic Washi Tape to cover just the handles for a small, stylish statement.

While washi tape and contact paper are both adhesive products, their application methods differ slightly. To apply contact paper, measure and cut your pieces first — aim for the fewest amount of seams as possible. Peel off the backing at one corner and begin sticking the paper to the surface. Continue peeling, sticking, and smoothing out any air bubbles (use a credit card or wallpaper scraping tool) until the paper is fully applied. If you're using washi tape, press the tape firmly in place and smooth out any air bubbles. Line up the next piece so that it abuts the previous piece but doesn't overlap. Continue until the entire appliance is covered.
