Trade In Your Cartons For A DIY Country Kitchen-Inspired Egg Basket
With celebs like Fixer Upper's Joanna Gaines and even music superstar Jennifer Lopez embracing country kitchens, it's no surprise this aesthetic remains popular. Luckily, there are many ways to replicate Joanna Gaines' stunning kitchen in your home without spending a fortune. Instead of going big, one tactic is to add small details to enhance the rustic tone of your decor. A simple chicken-themed egg basket is the perfect example of a minor change that makes a noticeable impression, and YouTube content creator Lista Tsurayya has the recipe for an egg basket on a budget.
To create her hen-themed storage container, Lista wraps the bottom of a large plastic bottle in fabric and jute rope as a base. She then fashions the head and tail of her farm bird from wire and more jute. The resulting product is a fully customizable carrier you can use instead of cartons to store eggs in your refrigerator. Or you can place it on the countertop with some filler as decoration. This project is a great option for crafting a farmhouse kitchen without overdoing it. Check out how to make your own using a recycled bottle and a few craft supplies.
Creating and customizing the basket
You'll need to gather a few supplies before you start, including a large plastic bottle, fabric of your choice, jute rope, and metal wire, like this 0.2 mm copper wire. You'll also need some tin snips, scissors, and hot glue. Eforcase jute twine and dark brown hemp rope are good options for a two-toned bird. With materials ready, it's time to shape your hen.
Step one is cutting off the base of the bottle. Cover it with floral-themed fabric and glue twine halfway up around the outside. Shape the chicken head and tail with wire and hot glue them to the outer edge, then continue wrapping the jute upward until you reach the metal formations; wrap them as well. In her video, Lista makes the cockscomb and the beak out of red foam and adds a plastic eye to the bird. Some other ways to customize your hen include gluing feathers to the wing area, crafting a handle out of wire and twine, and using buttons for eyes to enhance the rustic charm. You can also line the bottom with parts of an actual egg carton to enhance the stability of eggs inside. This is one of the smartest ways to repurpose large egg trays for an organized kitchen and save money on decor. However you modify Lista's design, your new egg storage will offer plenty of farmhouse charm for cheap.
