Ditch The Basic Shelving For A More Unique Way To Display Your Favorite Books
If you're an avid reader, you might be looking for a cute way to display your favorite books without the hassle of having to worry about an over-cluttered shelf. Whether it's a limited edition print or just a book that you love with a particularly-beautiful cover, finding a way to incorporate these books as art in your home can feel impossible in any space. But with this simple floating glass display case, you can easily give your favorite books the spotlight they deserve while keeping your shelves clutter-free in the process. You'll simply attach your book to the inside of a glass shadow box with strong double-sided tape, then hang the display anywhere in your home.
So why does this trick work? A floating book display can be the perfect way to tackle overcrowding on your shelves. If you're a maximalist, you may think that more is always better when it comes to decorating your bookshelf. But if your gorgeous novel is surrounded by too much clutter, it can take away from the overall aesthetic. The floating display will let your book speak for itself while also removing some clutter from your bookshelf, allowing for negative space that makes your basic shelf look more tasteful. And because it is a compact solution, it can be perfect for smaller spaces, like a compact half bath or a narrow hallway. It brings a chic, museum-like quality to any small area.
How to create a floating display
The process of creating a floating book display is fairly simple, and you only need a few tools to get yourself started. First, grab yourself a shadow box like the Jajamy Shadow Box Frame. It can be any accent color you want. On the back of the shadow box, measure around 2 inches down from the top and 1½ inches in on both sides, marking two dots. Then, squeeze a generous amount of glass glue in these areas and secure two sawtooth hangers. It is recommended to use two hangers to evenly distribute the weight of your book. Add glue on top of the hangers as well and let them completely dry. An alternative is to simply lean this box up against the wall on a floating shelf.
Once your hangers are sufficiently attached to the shadow box, it's time to secure your book in its place. Use two generous strips of heavy-duty double-sided tape and apply it to the top and bottom of the back of your book. Because the book will be secure, this idea is best used for novels that you don't actually want to read. Furthermore, this may cause more damage to soft cover books over hard covers. Secure it in place in your shadow box, ensuring that you completely cover the backside of your hangers. Press down for a few seconds to get the book positioned properly. Remove the two small loops at the top of the shadow box (if applicable) with pliers. Finally, hang your new display case anywhere in your home to bring a chic new feel to your reading favorites.
