The Most Trustworthy And Reliable Appliance Brands, According To Experts

Installing new appliances in your home can both be a source of wonder and a headache-inducing task. On the one hand, you get to match the devices to your interiors and take advantage of the latest technology (smart washer, anyone?). Following recent trends might also boost your house's value if you plan to sell soon. Additionally, investing in energy-efficient models will bring down your utility bills. On the other hand, it can be hard to pick a brand that's reliable and will give you a high return on the invested capital. Even if you steer clear of less-trusted makes (here's which unreliable appliance brands to avoid, according to home improvement experts), there are still a lot of mediocre companies you could sink your hard-earned money into. For instance, Kenmore's appliances are average across the board.

The choice is made more difficult with brands overpromising and under-delivering. Worse, a few brands coast on their parent company's goodwill while offering substandard performance. A prime example is Daikin-owned Goodman. And sifting through thousands of buyer reviews across multiple brands and will leave you more confused than ever. So, to help you save time and get the best bang for your buck, we spoke exclusively to four experts and collated this list of trustworthy appliance brands. If you're looking to get new appliances, here are the brands you should consider bringing home and the reasons why our experts feel they're reliable.

Wolf's kitchen appliances are a dream for budding home chefs

Whether you're learning to scramble eggs, hoping to replicate the chicken dish you saw on TikTok, or brewing a winning cup of coffee, the appliances you use can either set you up for success or bring you down. So, ensure your cooktop, microwave, and coffee maker are up to the task before you let out your inner Gordon Ramsay. Looking to give your kitchen appliances a much-needed upgrade and wondering is the space-saving Wolf countertop oven is worth it? Adam Chahl, an award-winning Vancouver real estate agent and the founder of Vancouver Home Search, says in an exclusive House Digest interview, "Wolf delivers professional-grade performance for home chefs." Brought into the Sub-Zero fold in 2000, Wolf offers an impressive range of products, including ranges, built-in ovens, microwaves, cooktops and rangetops, ventilation, coffee systems, and more.

When asked for the reason behind his recommendation, Chahl reveals, "The brand uses premium materials and offers robust warranties, which, in my experience, are rarely needed because its products are so well-made." To elaborate, all Wolf appliances intended for residential use enjoy a two-year warranty (Factory Certified Installation guarantees three years) from the date they're installed. This includes parts and labor required to repair or replace an appliance. The brand also offers a limited five-year warranty on certain parts, such as electronic control boards, magnetron tubes, and electric heating elements, and will cover their repair and replacement. Plus, each product is built to last at least 20 years, so there's a good chance you'll get your money's worth.

Whirlpool is a reliable brand producing budget-friendly appliances

Whirlpool has carved a niche for itself in the consumer technology sector. It has over 100 years of experience producing home appliances, introduced the first automatic washer in 1948, and has won more than 20 innovation awards from the Consumer Technology Association. As such, it gets Chahl's stamp of approval. The expert says, "Whirlpool is a brand I often recommend to those looking for reliable appliances at a reasonable price point." The brand offers a range of appliances in the kitchen, laundry, HVAC, and water filter segments. Plus, it's dedicated to innovation, and its smart range is featured in the HGTV® Smart Home 2025.

But these aren't the only reasons why this brand is worth investing in. Chahl explains, "They've been in the industry for decades, and their focus on straightforward, durable designs makes them a go-to choice for many homeowners. Whirlpool appliances, in my opinion, have fewer service calls compared to other brands in the same price range, which is ideal for those seeking low-maintenance options." Besides, you have the option to self repair the appliances should they malfunction beyond their one-year warranty period.

Seconding Chahl, Francisco Fuenmayor, an insured handyman at LocalProBook, explains the reason Whirlpool is a reliable brand in his exclusive House Digest interview. He mentions, "Whirlpool appliances are built for the long haul. Their designs are straightforward, which means fewer parts to break. Their refrigerators, like the Whirlpool WRB322DMBM bottom-freezer model, are excellent for reliability because they use fewer moving parts in the cooling system." This is why Whirlpool is one of the major refrigerator brands you should consider.

Sub-Zero refrigeration products are ideal for preserving your food

Founded in 1945 with a vision to produce quality refrigerators, Sub-Zero has become a household name. Moreover, its line of refrigeration products are the kitchen appliances to invest in if you're looking to sell. Explaining the reason behind their popularity, Mitchell G. David, the founder of Beach Life Premier Team, says in an exclusive interview with House Digest, "High-end refrigeration products by Sub-Zero are renowned for providing optimal food preservation conditions." To lower instances of freezer burn and spoiled food, the company relies on a dual refrigeration system for the freezer and the fridge. Plus, the refrigerators are equipped with a NASA-developed air purification system to tackle bad smells and ethylene, so you don't have to look up ways to get rid of funky odors in your fridge. The best part, though? The seals on the doors are built to keep the cold in and keep the stored food fresh.

Vouching for Sub-Zero's refrigerators, David details why he's a fan, "All of their appliances are constructed using high-quality materials and are rigorously tested to ensure their durability. When properly maintained, Sub-Zero refrigerators can last 20 years or more. Customer service is highly regarded because they only have a few service calls. With advanced technologies such as air purification and temperature stabilization, their refrigeration units reflect their commitment to quality." Should you run into issues, all Sub-Zero refrigerators come with a two-year warranty (Factory Certified Installation has three years). Compressors, evaporators, driers, condensers, and connected tubing enjoy five years of warranty. Under extreme circumstances, these parts have a limited 12-year coverage.

Bosch appliances last long and are easy to repair

Bosch is trusted all over the world for producing robust refrigerators, espresso machines, ovens, dishwashers, induction cooktops, ranges, laundry machines, tools, and more. If you're looking for appliances that will turn your ordinary kitchen into a smart one, the Bosch brand is a great starting point. Based on his experience with several brands, Daniel Vasilevski, director and owner of Bright Force Electrical, tells House Digest in his exclusive interview, "Bosch products are thoughtfully designed for longevity and ease of servicing." When asked which of the brand's products he likes the most and why, Vasilevski says, "Their dishwashers and washing machines, for example, are built with modular components that allow specific parts to be replaced without requiring the entire system to be dismantled. This design makes repair jobs more efficient and significantly reduces downtime, saving both time and money for the homeowner." Considering this, it's no wonder that Euromonitor International Limited recognized the Bosch as the world's best brand for dishwashers in its 2023 sales issue and received a thumbs-up from Consumer Reports.

Revealing a few other reasons why he swears by the brand, Vasilevski mentions, "Moreover, Bosch uses high-quality parts in areas that typically experience the most wear, such as circulation pumps and control boards. These components are engineered to last longer than the industry standard, often exceeding the lifespan of similar parts in competing brands." And although the brand offers a 365-day warranty from the date of an appliance's delivery and you can extend the warranty period, Vasilevski shares that it's not always needed. He says, "This attention to detail and quality ensures that Bosch appliances require fewer service calls, making them one of the most reliable brands I've worked with over the years."

Miele puts its appliances through rigorous testing and uses quality materials

Another brand Vasilevski recommends for home appliances, such as refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, and washers, is Miele. He's a fan of the 125-year-old company due to its unique testing process. He explains, "I've worked with a lot of Miele appliances, from premium kitchen systems to quality vacuums, and one thing I want to point out is their extensive testing process. Miele subjects all their appliances to stress simulations equivalent to 20 years of daily use." The unusual testing process shows their commitment to delivering quality products and ensuring their customers get the highest ROI (return on investment). He continues, "This means their components, such as motors, bearings, and seals, are tested under heavy workloads to ensure they perform reliably for decades." Miele also stands out due to its sustainability policy 'Immer Besser,' which roughly translates to eternally better. In fact, its proprietary technology won it the German Sustainability Award 2024.

Besides, Vasilevski recommends the brand because "Miele's choice of materials for critical components is another reason why I consider them the best in the game. They use cast metal in areas like motor housings and structural parts, which ensures stability and durability." To explain how this sets the brand apart from its competition, he reveals that "many brands use plastic in these areas, but Miele's reliance on metal components means their appliances are less likely to suffer from cracking or fatigue. This makes a huge difference over the lifespan of the appliance, as it reduces the need for frequent repairs or part replacements. I have worked on Miele appliances that are over a decade old, and the core components are still in excellent condition." Plus, the brand offers a two-year warranty on all purchases and you have the option to extend it per your discretion.

Speed Queen laundry machines are a force to be reckoned with

If you're in the market for a new laundry appliance, Speed Queen is one of the top washing machine brands that are worth the hype. The legacy company (it was established over 100 years ago) is dedicated to ensuring you get your money's worth over the years and has snagged the top spot in Consumer Reports' 2024 Appliance Brand Reliability Rankings. This is also one of the reasons why Fuenmayor recommends investing in these appliances. He mentions, "If you want laundry machines that outlast everything else, go for Speed Queen. Their TR7 washer and DR7 dryer are practically bulletproof — these are commercial-grade machines disguised as home appliances. They handle daily heavy loads like a champ and require minimal maintenance over decades." In fact, the company claims that its appliances are still commercial grade; it has just removed the coin slot and adjusted the design to suit a household. It also produces washers specifically for pet owners, so they don't have to deal with the hair and odor on their clothes.

Disclosing his reasons for recommending this brand, Fuenmayor points out the appliances are "built to last 20+ years with heavy-duty metal components." Speed Queen subjects each machine to a test of 10,400 cycles, designing them to last roughly 25 years in a residential environment. He also likes the brand's exceptional warranty coverage. Based on the machine you invest in, the company offers three-, five-, or seven-year warranties and covers labor charges. However, he cautions that these benefits come at a high price (literally), saying that the appliances have a "high upfront cost compared to other laundry appliances."

GE appliances are durable and perform consistently

GE is a Haier company and has been building appliances for 100 years. Its product range covers kitchen, laundry, small appliances, air and water, and filters and parts. Additionally, it has started producing eco-friendly appliances that consume less energy and have a low carbon footprint. Fuenmayor recommends the brand and mentions, "For budget-friendly reliability, GE is a solid choice. Their Profile Series Ranges are well-built and offer consistent performance. The GE GDT665SSNSS dishwasher is another standout — it's durable and perfect for families looking for a reliable machine without spending a fortune."

Fuenmayor feels GE is a solid choice because the brand offers, "Affordable options with good build quality." The cherry on top? It offers extra discounts for veterans, healthcare professionals, educators, and first responders if you buy directly from their site. Moreover, if you run into any problems during the first year, they'll be covered under the brand's warranty policy. "Readily available replacement parts and service" are another plus Fuenmayor mentions. However, it's a classic case of getting what you pay for. The repair expert warns, "Lifespan may not match premium brands like Miele or Sub-Zero." So, temper your expectations accordingly and think it through before placing an order.
