The All-Natural Cleaner That Will Leave Your Walls And Baseboards Spotless

There are two types of people in this world: Those who clean their walls on a regular basis, and those who had no idea that was even a thing. Whichever you are, you are likely well-versed in spot-cleaning walls, whether it's wiping up dirt and grime pets leave behind, removing scuff marks from rearranging furniture, or erasing your toddler's crayon mural. Those chores require specific cleaning solutions and usually bit of elbow grease, but there's a quick and easy way to clean your interior walls from top to bottom using all-natural ingredients that will leave them looking (and smelling) amazing.

Instagrammer @mama_mila_au shares her go-to recipe for a DIY all-natural wall and baseboard cleaner using vinegar and a little dish soap as the primary active ingredients. Diluted vinegar is safe for baseboards as well as walls, whether painted or covered in vinyl wallpaper, although it's always best to do a patch test first. She throws in a few drops of peppermint essential oil to add a fresh scent to her wall wipe-down, which also doubles as a secret weapon in this DIY hack.

How to mix up a natural wall cleaner with a secret pest repellant

To make this DIY baseboard and wall cleaner, just mix 1 cup of warm water with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Though not required, adding peppermint essential oil will leave your whole house smelling great while also repelling bugs and pests. Lots of common household critters hate peppermint, including ants, spiders, roaches, moths, flies, and ticks, just to name a few.

To prevent over-saturating the walls with this cleaning solution, the Instagrammer uses a flat mop, like the Bona Premium Microfiber Floor Mop, and sprays the solution on the pad before wiping down the walls from the ceiling down to the baseboards. For extra tall ceilings, try a wall and ceiling mop, like the Jehonn Wall Cleaner Mop, which extends to 82 inches.

You can also look beyond vinegar for a DIY natural wall cleaner. Borax is an all-natural and powerful ingredient that works like magic to clean walls. It can get rid of mildew, scuffs, and ink, but be sure to keep it away from pets and kids as borax is toxic if ingested. For particularly stubborn stains, including wine and oil, hydrogen peroxide can make your dirty walls look as good as new. You can even mix in some baking soda to gently scrub away set-in stains. Whatever method you choose, adding in some peppermint essential oil will leave your home smelling great while keeping pests away.
