Design A Moving Hot Tub Privacy Wall Using Wood Pallets
Privacy is essential if you want to get the most out of your outdoor hot tub. As much as you want to ease back and enjoy the soothing, rumbling water around you, the constant exposure to viewers unknown can make it almost impossible to truly relax. When the tub is out in the open, setting up a hot tub privacy barrier becomes absolutely critical. And in many cases, a simple moving wall is the perfect solution! You could always take the easy route and buy a suitable screen, but a functional and good-looking wall isn't too difficult to DIY either. YouTube channel Hometalk shows just how easy it can be, offering a tutorial on making a simple yet attractive structure with nothing more than PVC pipes, a few screws, and an old pallet.
After doing the necessary safety checks on your pallet and assessing the quality of the wood, remove the deck boards to repurpose for the privacy wall. Cut PVC pipes to act as upright supports that will attach to the horizontal pallet boards. Another set of shorter PVC pipes will connect to a PVC tee to make the legs. The tees then connect to the PVC support posts to let the wall stand upright without the risk of falling over. The completed build is lightweight and easy to maneuver whenever you're ready to use the hot tub. With a few considerations, the project can be exceptionally easy to finish and offer much more beyond the added sense of privacy.
Points to remember when building your wood pallet privacy wall
Before working on your pallet, take a few seconds to grab some essential safety gear. Use a pair of work gloves to protect against splinters from the pallets, and wear a face mask when spray painting your PVC pipes. Face protection is critical throughout the project, including when you drill into your PVC pipes. Though generally safe to use, PVC can release small particles into the air when you drill into it, so you'll want to protect against any respiratory hazards.
When you're ready to build, the process is straightforward. Still, there are a few details to keep in mind if you want longevity and optimal functionality. For starters, pre-drill pilot holes when connecting your pallets to the PVC supports. Pre-drilling can stop the pallet from splitting (if you can't screw through the existing nail holes) and prevent cracks in the PVC pipe. You'll avoid a weak installation and save yourself from starting over with new pieces. Otherwise, the build shouldn't cause many complications. Once complete, you can figure out which accessories to add to the wall to help you enhance your hot tub experience. Attaching a few hanging hooks to hold your towels is a no-brainer. But you can also go a step further by adding shelves to keep drinks, phones, and other items nearby and out of the way of splashing water. A DIY privacy wall is a blank canvas, so have fun designing it in any way that takes your hot tub time to the next level.
