Grab An Old Light Cover And Plastic Spoons To DIY An Adorable Vase On The Cheap

There are many clever ways to repurpose plastic silverware around the house, and this DIY is certainly one to consider. Reuse your leftover plastic spoons and an old light cover and transform them into an adorable vase perfect for your home's decor.

Start by finding an old round light cover and a bunch of plastic spoons. Thoroughly wash and dry all of your supplies to remove any dust or dirt. Sand any rough edges of the light cover (take precautions like wearing gloves, glasses, and face protection when sanding glass) and coat it with clear nail polish. To prepare the spoons, cut off the plastic handles and using a hot glue gun, glue the spoon tops to the rim of the light cover so that the top of each spoon is facing the rim and the curve of the spoon is to the outside. Continue to add the spoons around the light cover, allowing the spoons to layer on top of one another. As you reach the bottom of the cover, the spoons may sit more perpendicular to the side glass. This is okay as it will give the overall design the look of a blooming flower.

Finally, paint the spoons. One YouTube creator used gold paint, but you can choose any color you prefer to fit with your room's aesthetic and style. (Tip: Use spray paint instead to make the process go faster.) Once completely dry, style the vase with some foliage to decorate your home!

Add your personal style to this DIY

This DIY vase will make a unique statement piece, and there are many ways to adjust it to use what you have around the house. Don't have a round light cover? You could use a leftover fishbowl or a plain vase instead. One creator even repurposed an old plastic water bottle for this project. Or go for a sharper look by using the tops of plastic forks instead of spoons.

If you love the design, you can make it with multiple different styles. Create another vase where you point the top of the spoon down away from the rim for a different look. Instead of painting the vase, line the edges of the spoons with decorative foam tape before gluing them to the glass. Add lace or other embellishments around the rim of the vase to give it an extra sparkle. You can even create different vases for different seasons. Want to add seasonal flowers to the finished vase?
