Repurpose Pillows Into Festive Jumbo Bows To Decorate Your Home For The Holidays

The home decor bow trend has made an especially big comeback in 2024, and while festooning everything from your tree to your mantle and making your picture frames more romantic with them, it's the giant bows that are the real statement pieces. And what's really catching everyone's eyes are three dimensional bows made from pillows and sheets that are able to add a soft style to your home that can't be found on any shelf. All you need to make these trending decorations are a few standard pillows, pillow covers and sheets in the holiday colors of your choice, and a place to display your new decor piece. A simple tie down the middle of one cushion and some homemade tails will transform bedding into bows with only a small amount effort (and maximum style).

Prep your supplies by grabbing some old pillows — or grab some inexpensive standard pillows at your local Walmart, Target, or even online. For this DIY, softer pillows might work a little better and offer a more pliable "base," so avoid Buckwheat filled pillows and memory foam, which also might be too heavy for some hooks. If you do have older pillows you aren't using, this is a great opportunity to get one last use out of them.

Turn old pillows into new decor

Start by putting your pillows into your new holiday themed cases. These can be solid colors, prints, patterns, or a mix. Many bedding packs come with extra fabric bags that store the sheets, so hold onto these to cut into strips. Opt for cases that close around your pillows completely for a more aesthetic, finished bow. Use the fabric strips you've cut from the bedding bags to tie around the middle of your pillow so it becomes a bow shape. You can use multiple strips if needed to really cinch the middle of the pillow and make each end poof out like a ribbon.

Take your matching sheets and cut "tails" from them. To get a full look, cut two pieces of fabric into long rectangles, then cut one end of both pieces diagonally to get the pointed ends. Use a glue gun to connect the long edges and bottoms of these two pieces, leaving the top of your "tail" open so you can flip the connected pieces inside out. This will get rid of your rough edges. Repeat this process again so you have two tails per bow. Then, attach them with hot glue onto the back of your pillow bow. You can add large plastic decor to the front of the cinch or even onto the poofs on either side to elevate the whole piece. Glue string or ribbon to the back of the cinch so you can hang your pillow wherever you choose to display the coziest, most stylish holiday creations that scream Anthropologie bow dupe
