DIY Adorable And Affordable Light Up Holiday Decor With Empty Toilet Paper Rolls

Unique and eco-friendly holiday décor can be a great way to help reduce waste, use what you have, and yet still create beautiful trimmings for your home on a budget. Ordinary objects like glass jars, boxes, and packaging can be repurposed in all sorts of interesting ways with a little ingenuity to serve as holiday décor. This includes objects that may, at first glance, seem like trash to be thrown out. YouTube DIYer BKSUNSHINE recently showed off how to create beautiful snowflake candle holders out of old cardboard toilet paper rolls, hot glue, and some metallic paint. Perfect for a Christmas on a budget, the results are stunning paperboard snowflakes you can use to hold faux LED pillars or votive candles.

This project is a perfect sustainable and fun crafting project for inexpensive holiday décor. Not only does it keep cardboard rolls out of the landfill and allow you to reuse them, but it's also a fun way to customize your candle holders by varying the shape size and other decorative details. These holders look cute on a coffee table or mantle, but also make great additions as part of a winter or holiday dining table centerpiece.

Making a snowflake candle holder from cardboard rolls

To create these creative Christmas decorations, begin by pressing the cardboard roll flat. Measure the width you would like your cardboard pieces to be and mark them off with a pencil before cutting. Fold the loose pieces of cardboard once again to create pointed segments that you can then nest together, building from the center of the snowflake toward the outside. Once you have them laid out as you desire, affix them together with some dabs of hot glue to hold them in place. Continue adding pieces around the perimeter until you have the desired size and shape of your snowflake. Add a column of cardboard roll to the top with glue to hold your faux candle.

To customize the holder, use a bit of spray paint to paint the piece your desired festive color, or add a shiny metallic finish in silver, gold, or copper paint. You can also add seasonal elements like sprigs of greenery, berries, or mini pinecones to the base around the upright portion with some more glue. These snowflakes made out of cardboard are not only perfect as the base of this candle but you can also turn them into beautifully detailed tree ornaments or a fun seasonal garland with the addition of some ribbon or wire.
