Transform Dollar Tree Tumbling Blocks Into A Chic Wood Kitchen Organizer
Inexpensive and stylish storage solutions are not always easy to sort out amid countless options offered by retailers. While there are many ways to organize any space like a kitchen, including containers, crocks, baskets, and boxes, you may be overlooking a cool DIY project that costs only around a dollar. Tumbling Tower wooden game pieces, available from Dollar Tree, are useful for much more than fun and games. YouTube DIYer Asia Raouf shows that with a little glue and easy engineering, you can turn them into a stylish storage organizer for your kitchen.
Use this DIY organizer to hold utensils and loose items on your counter. The rich wood can easily pass for a much more expensive piece from home retailers. Even better, the container is totally customizable, not only in how you finish and add accents to match your kitchen decor and aesthetic but also in how you fit the dimensions to your needs.
Making a wood organizer from game pieces
Begin by determining how large you want your caddy to be, which will dictate how many game pieces you will need. The YouTube tutorial uses four longer segments of about 10 pieces and six shorter segments that make up the sides and center divider. Glue the pieces together with a sturdy adhesive like Gorilla glue, wood glue, or E6000 to form a secure grip. Keep adding pieces to the sides until you've reached the desired dimensions. Use two longer pieces stacked atop each other to form the longer sides. The shorter segments stacked atop each other make up the sides and a center divider to create two separate compartments. Press the sides together and allow the box to dry completely before use.
Customize your holder with elements like a pretty burlap ribbon or other fun decorative accents that fit your kitchen decor. Sand and refinish the caddy with your favorite wood stain, or paint the organizer to match your kitchen design elements. With a smaller number of pieces, try creating smaller organizers in various sizes. You can even make single layer boxes to declutter and organize every cabinet drawer in your home. Or, construct a tall box with additional game sets to create an organizer for keeping rolls of foil, plastic wrap, and parchment paper upright and easy to grab for perfectly organized kitchen cabinets. The organizer also makes a pretty and rustic container for a floral centerpiece at your next dinner party.
