Turn A Dollar Tree Hula Hoop Into Twinkling Holiday Decor With A Stunning DIY

Holiday wreaths come in a variety of sizes, designs and price points, with many larger wreaths and arrangements fetching a hefty price tag — even for undecorated ones. If you're looking for a great way to create a huge and fully customizable DIY wreath for a Christmas on a budget, visit the toy aisle of your local Dollar Tree, where you may find just the perfect thing for creating an immense, gorgeous, and inexpensive holiday wreath. This giant festive wreath is made out of a Dollar Tree plastic hula hoop, and holiday greenery and trimmings.

This piece is perfect if you are looking for something large and with a lot of impact to round out your décor this holiday season. It looks great on a fireplace hearth or mantle, in a window, or on a table as a focal point centerpiece for a buffet or gift table. You can also use it as a holiday photo booth opportunity at your next family gathering, holiday wedding, or office Christmas party.

Creating a holiday wreath from a hula hoop

To DIY a beautiful classic Christmas wreath, wrap your hoop in inexpensive pine garland available from Dollar Tree. You could also use other kinds of greenery like eucalyptus or crepe myrtle for a rustic look, or add some shiny foil tinsel garland to add some color and shimmer to the project. Secure the wrapped greenery with a few dabs of hot glue along the hoop and at the ends, or even some clear packing tape that you can hide when you start to decorate the wreath. You could also add some fabric to hide the hoop or paint it. Use ordinary holiday picks with seasonal accents, ribbon, ornaments, or a cute wooden sign to stick in amongst the greenery. They will likely stay put if you plan to move your piece around, but you may want to use some hot glue to secure them. For some festive lighting, wrap the wreath in battery operated twinkle lights. You can also hang a few ornaments on a fishing line in the middle of the hoop to add some interest to the center.

For a standing base, create a simple stand out of three lengths of scrap wood nailed together to sandwich the wreath and keep it upright. You could also hang the wreath on a wall, suspend it from a ceiling or outdoor branch, or use an easel to display it. To add a bit more girth to your hula hoop, wrap it with a pool noodle sliced in the middle and tied with zip ties. Use the foam to securely stick in your decorative elements.
