Who Knew Dollar Tree Plungers Could Be Turned Into The Perfect Home Organizer?

If you have clutter covering your desk or counters, you may be looking for a way to organize it all. While there are many stunning organizing and storage products to put on display in your home, you can also transform toilet plungers from Dollar Tree into a household organizer to get the job done! And don't worry, it won't look like plungers when you finish.

A quick trip to the discount retailer to purchase two thermoplastic toilet plungers and two etched nickel-plated metal serving trays will set you on the right track to make this DIY and organize your space. If you don't like the nickel-plated serving trays, you could also try the retailer's crafter's square wood trays with handles instead.

Before you begin the project, start by decluttering the space. This professional organizer's simple storage rule of keeping only what you can neatly store makes decluttering much easier. Then, you'll want to grab a saw, some sandpaper, industrial-strength E6000 glue, hot glue, and spray paint. The ultimate goal is to turn your plungers into four dowels and attach them to the serving trays like shelves.

How to make this DIY shine

To begin, remove each plastic plunger from its wood handle. Next, use a saw to cut both ends of the handles so they are flat, then cut each handle in half leaving you with four flat-ended dowels. Sand the edges until they're smooth and all four dowels are the same height. Using both E6000 and hot glue for maximum hold, attach one dowel in each of the four corners of the first serving tray. Then, glue the second tray on top of the four dowels. Once the glue is completely dry, you will be ready to paint the project.

Choose your favorite color spray paint and coat the entire organizer. TikTok creator @dollartree.hacks used dark gray paint for a more rustic look, but you could use any color that matches your home's decor. You could also create this project multiple times and decorate each organizer differently depending on the room it will be in.

For extra personal flair, add other elements once the paint is dry like using hot glue to cover the dowels in gems or seashells. Once done, you can use the organizer for your plants, office supplies, makeup products, and more!
