The DIY Tiled Kitchen Spice Rack That Adds Jazzy Storage To The Side Of A Cabinet

There's something luxurious about glossy printed tile that makes a room look thoughtfully put together. Of course, once you've finished a project, there always seems to be squares to spare and they're too costly a material to waste. If you're looking for genius ways to use your leftover tiles, YouTuber, Chaza_diylady has just the project. She created a stunning custom spice rack that declutters the culinary area, while simultaneously tying her backsplash into her decor.

Chaza began by shaping a shallow rectangular wooden frame to fit the space next to her stove. She lined the box with porcelain shingles and added shelves to stack her cooking seasonings. The finished look screams "expensive designer find" but is 100% homemade — and too good to pass up trying for yourself. This project lets you organize your spices so you can see all of your options and streamline your aesthetic in the process. Check out how to get the look for your kitchen.

Craft and mount your DIY tiled spice rack

Along with tiles, wood, and hardware for your unit, you'll need to purchase backsplash adhesive, like Red Devil tile paste, and a tool to smooth it down, like the ToolUSA 5 inch wall tile applicator. You can also choose a pre-set product like the Art3D tile setting mat. Finish your supply run by picking up rack inserts or shelves. Check out IKEA's BESTA frames if you're not handy with woodworking. Stack two and voila, you've got a similar look to Chaza's. With supplies ready, it's time for some crafting fun.

Begin by building the storage rack exterior. Measure the space you want to hang it and pick up a sheet of plywood from your local handy store to fit. Use 2 x 4 or 1 x 4 boards to build it out to your desired depth and secure them with nails. Sand and stain or paint them. Next, line the plywood backing with the adhesive mat or tile glue and lay the porcelain inside. After the grout has been added, sponged off, and left to dry, add the shelves and rails to hold the seasonings. Stick-on magnetic strips are a great option for metal racks. Once mounted, you can say goodbye to cluttered kitchen countertops with this DIY storage solution. Customize your design by adding a door to cover the jars, or by painting the frame in funky colors to match your home decor.
