Combine Wood Glue And Wire For A Stunning DIY Floral Decor Accent
Unique and distinctive decorative pieces can often be found with hefty price tags. This is particularly true for items with the beautiful detailing of glasswork or enamel flowers, which are often very fragile and delicate. If you're looking to add some floral accents to your décor without paying a fortune, you may be surprised to find that gorgeous glass-effect blocks can be created out of a few very simple items you may already have in your home. With some wire and ordinary wood glue, TikTok user @taelincosplay shows us a great way to decorate the home with flowers, creating beautiful, semi-transparent floral décor.
Not only are these delicate blooms a fun and easy craft project for adults and kids alike, but you can use these floral accents in a variety of ways, including in arrangements, on wreaths, or affixed to other kinds of floral-inspired home design projects. They make a particularly beautiful dining room centerpiece addition. Or, you can employ them as gift wrap accents or DIY hair ornaments and jewelry.
How to create wood glue flowers
To create your wood glue flowers, begin by fashioning a piece of wire into flower-like shapes. For smaller flowers, you can use a single length of wire twisted into a series of petals that meet in the middle with a stem that descends. For larger flowers, use the length of wire to form individual petals or leaves that you can attach together with an adhesive like E6000. To shape larger petals, curve them with needle nose pliers and add some scalloping to the edges. Add additional wire down the middle as veins, which will help the flower maintain its shape.
Dip the petals or blooms into the wood glue and remove carefully, allowing the thin film to remain between the wire supports. Place the pieces on some newspaper or paper towels and allow them to dry fully. Some DIYers use nail polish to paint their flowers, which can give a colorful metallic finish that makes the flowers look like they are made of enamel or glass. You could also use acrylic or spray paint. If you're making many flowers in the same color and don't want to paint them individually, add some food coloring to the wood glue before you dip the wire.
