Add Style To Your Bedroom With A DIY Mosaic Tile Cubed Bedside Table

When it comes to bedside tables, you typically don't have many choices for texture or material. Most nightstands are made of some type of wood, real or engineered. But if you're a fan of mosaic art and DIY-ing, you can change the entire surface of your small table by finishing it with small tiles. All you need are about 10 square feet of porcelain or ceramic tiles, a dry cloth, a trowel, a bucket, a sponge or rag, a tape measure, grout, and a grout adhesive, mixture, float, and mixer.

Before you begin tiling, measure the table sides so you'll know how much tile to buy. After you've purchased all the materials, wipe down your table with a clean, dry cloth. Then use a trowel to apply the tile adhesive to one side and start laying down the tiles. Repeat these steps for each side you wish to cover. Read the adhesive instructions to determine the waiting time. After the adhesive has set, mix the grout in a bucket following the user manual on the bag. Use a grout float to properly grout your tiles, and wipe off the excess with a wet sponge or rag. Although you might find this project easiest with a cube-shaped table with no openings, there are many other table styles you can tile. You also have the option to personalize the tiles to either match the decor of the room or serve as an accent table.

Ways to customize your mosaic tile table

When you shop for tile, consider what size and shape would work best for your nightstand. Also, keep in mind that small tiles typically come pre-attached to a net-like backing, making the installation process easier and faster. This quality may also influence your purchasing decisions. Now, for the fun part: choosing the right tile. You can select one color for the entire table, use a different color on every side, or opt for multi-colored tiles all around. You can even convert your table into a giant Rubik's cube and paint the tiles accordingly. You also have many options for grout color. Another way to personalize your DIY mosaic tile project is to apply tiles to only the top when decorating the nightstand, while leaving the original finish on the other surfaces.

Does your table have drawers, handles, knobs, shelves, or openings, or is it more rectangular than cubed? No problem! You can still apply tiles, even to the interior. Tiling the front of the drawers with handles is also a possibility. Either shape the tiles to fit around the handles or knobs, or replace them with adhesive knobs or handles like these MOROBOR adhesive cabinet knobs
