Build The Cozy Modern Lamp Of Your Dreams With IKEA Products
Wondering if either a floor lamp or table lamp is best for you? Well, luckily there is no shortage of IKEA desk lamps that will light up your home, both on the brand's website and on the marketplace shelves at your nearest location, but that doesn't mean that you are limited by what is available. Keeping the long tradition of IKEA hacks alive, Germany-based DIYer and fellow interior design fan Wiebke Lea built a modern desk lamp out of existing IKEA products. The finished product looks like it was pulled right out of a catalog, and the only additional material needed to make this DIY at home is a bit of glue and a light source like these LGMCF Rechargeable Light Bulbs.
The beautiful DIY lamp combines a KVADRATUR pendant lamp shade, a BERGGRAN candle holder, a 10-inch BERÄKNA glass bowl, and a FÖRSEGLA bamboo coaster. Throw in some clear multipurpose adhesive (like this Gorilla Max Strength Clear Construction Adhesive) and paint for the coaster, and the grand total is around $60. It is, however, important to note that the KVADRATUR lamp shade is not currently available on the IKEA US website and the BERÄKNA bowl is only available in clear in the States, so you may have to search elsewhere, befriend someone in a different time zone, or get creative and dupe your way to the desired end goal.
How to make your own DIY lamp
It will likely take you more time to add these items to cart and checkout than it will to fully assemble the lamp and start softly lighting your room. The rechargeable light bulbs have a magnetic base so there is nothing to drill or screw. They also have three warmth settings, three brightness levels, and are remote controlled, so you're essentially getting several lamps in one. The candle holder is glued into the lamp shade, the lamp shade is glued into the bowl, and the coaster is painted and glued to the top of the bowl. If you're not loving the silver look of the candle holder, it also comes in anthracite, or you can paint it along with the coaster.
The idea behind this project is brilliant because it is cordless and can be placed anywhere. It can also be adapted in countless ways with different bases and with different vessels for the shade. Wiebke Lea posted another variation that uses the PÄRLBAND tealight holder and a VARDAGEN bowl that she turned lavender with acrylic spray paint. Warm lighting brings coziness to a space, and without outlet and floor space limitations, you'll soon have DIY lamps to upgrade your kitchen and all your other rooms that you never knew needed one.
