The Dollar Tree DIY Privacy Screen That Screams Budget-Friendly Glam
While privacy screens can sometimes be costly, it turns out you can DIY a stylish privacy screen with some scrap wood and Dollar Tree picture frames. To get that glamorous look, you might use silver or gold frames and spray paint your screen to match. Gorgeous scrap fabrics, such as velvet or lace, can be added to your screen to decrease visibility and add a bit of flair to your project. This project is super customizable and can upgrade any room in your home.
Since you'll be building the screen yourself, you can measure the area where you want it and construct it to the perfect dimensions for your home; however, ensure that the picture frame size you choose will correspond well with your base, as they will go inside of it. For the base of your project, you'll want to construct at least two rectangular panels by gluing and stapling four thin, wooden boards together for each. You can use any scrap wood available to you, or The Home Depot has 1 inch by 2 inch boards for less than $2. Once all the panels are constructed, screw hinges into the long sides to connect them. Now that your base is prepped, you can construct and decorate your privacy screen. If you choose to leave the frames empty and forego fabric, this project can also work to DIY a renter-friendly room divider.
Crafting a glamorous privacy screen
Now that your base is finished, spray paint it to match your glamorous picture frames and set it aside. Remove all of the hardware from your Dollar Tree picture frames and begin to attach them, leaving space in between for embellishments. Getfitsoo's Disposable Napkin Rings with geometric patterns make great accents for this project, and you can use their width to measure the perfect space between your frames. Now, set out your frames in lines the length of your base, leaving several inches in between, and use craft sticks to attach them. Glue two vertical craft sticks side by side to the shorter ends of two frames, or if you don't like this look, simply glue the frames together.
Once you have a string of frames, glue it to the wood of your base. Depending on the size, you may be able to fit one or two sets of frames into each panel of your privacy screen. Now, trim the tab off your napkin holder and glue to the frames to hide the craft sticks. You can add more accents in between the columns of frames or wherever looks best. To give your screen more privacy, stretch your piece of fabric to the back and staple into place. Alternatively, glue fabric-covered cardboard inside each frame. With this unique way to use Dollar Tree picture frames, you can build a one-of-a-kind privacy screen without hurting your budget.
