Create A High-End Vase From A DIY Cardboard Box Transformation
High-end decorative pottery never goes out of style, but high-end often means high priced. Fortunately, there are many household items that can be repurposed into beautiful flower vases if you're willing to put in the work. This is exactly what YouTuber, Yoduvh Essentials, came to realize. She developed the base of a stunning urn out of a cardboard box by gluing small bamboo plates around the vessel to build texture and using caulking to seal the gaps. Finally, she painted the entire creation silver to match her home decor.
Making your own planter gives you full control of the design while recycling materials saves money and the environment. This upcycled work of art transforms unwanted items into luxury decor at a fraction of the cost of a store-bought version, and you'd never know this luxe-looking decorative vase was a cardboard box. Check out how to achieve the look for yourself with a little DIY ingenuity and a few crafty materials.
Rolling and shaping your DIY box vase
This project is best suited to intermediate DIYers because of the mix of chemical supplies. To start, you will need a cardboard box, 4-inch wood dishes like the ECODECO palm leaf bowls, a hot glue gun, caulk, and silver paint like Rust-Oleum specialty metallic spray. You'll also need a sponge to smooth out the caulk later. Once you've assembled your supplies, it's time to put your DIY hat on and get crafting.
To begin, lay the cardboard out flat and score it evenly with a ruler so it will curl around itself to form the vase shape. Use your hot glue gun to secure it and glue the palm leaf or bamboo dishes on. Create a round base and rim for the top using more cardboard or foam core. Fill the gaps between the plates with caulk, and use a sponge to smooth everything down before letting it dry. Finish the look with spray paint. You can customize your creation by covering the entire thing in plaster for a Grecian urn look, opting for a different color paint, or even inverting the dishes for a convex texture, rather than concave look. However you customize your creation, you'll have a unique piece of art without the luxury price tag. Now, all that's left is to think up creative ways to decorate your home with vases.
