The Dollar Tree DIY That's A Stylish Spice Rack And Display Shelf
If you're on a mission to organize your kitchen, getting your spice collection in order is a great place to start. There are tons of spice storage solutions to choose from, like organizing your spice cabinets with a tension rod or using a hidden spice rack for seamless kitchen storage. But for an easy, countertop spice rack at an affordable price, try out this Dollar Tree DIY from the We Craft Around YouTube channel.
To get started, pick up Dollar Tree's four square wood trays with handles and paint them black with chalk paint. For an affordable option, this Folk Art Chalk Paint in Rich Black sells on Amazon for less than $6. Once your trays dry, attach them end-to-end in two pairs using a combination of quick hold glue and hot glue. Add support to the joined trays by hot gluing two large craft sticks across the bottom of each set. This GUSTO box of 100 jumbo craft sticks costs less than $4 and can be used for other projects around the home, like DIYing a gorgeous accent wall.
Build supports and assemble your spice rack
Now that you've put together the trays, it's time to build the side pieces of your spice rack. Glue two of the Dollar Tree tumbling tower game blocks end-to-end with your quick setting adhesive, and repeat with another two blocks. Then, glue each of those pairs to the end of a Crafter's Square wood plank. The ends of each plank that have the tumbling blocks will be the bottom of the spice rack. With these two side pieces assembled, they can now be painted. Opt for Folk Art Chalk Paint in French Linen to match the original project. Or mix things up by painting these pieces a different color of your own choosing.
Finally, it's time to assemble! When the supports are dry, mark them with a pencil on the inside — the side without the tumbling tower pieces attached. From the bottom (the tumbling block end), make marks at 1 ½-inches and 8 ½-inches. On one plank laying flat, use a combination of the quick setting glue and hot glue to adhere one side of the two trays above each pencil mark. Then, add glue to the center of the tray edges, and place the other side piece, lining up the bottom of the trays with the pencil marks. Allow the glue to set while the rack lies on its side. Once it does, you have a fully functional spice rack that will corral your spices and keep your countertops free of clutter.
