The Dollar Tree DIY That Puts An End To Disorganized Plastic Bag Storage

Plastic bags are essential staples to have around the kitchen and have proven themselves useful beyond food prep and storage time and time again. With their airtight seals and varying sizes, plastic baggies can be repurposed around the home and garden as self-watering planters or as fly or pest deterrents. Their space-saving and waterproof qualities can also protect passports, documents, clothes, or toiletries, making them a go-to item when packing for trips.

So when Instagrammer @doitonadime found a variety pack of Surefresh Storage Bags at Dollar Tree for $5, there was no hesitation to get it for her own home. But not everyone has the cabinet space in their kitchen drawers to store a bulky box. Her ingenious hack shows us how to easily hang the voluminous box from the back of a kitchen cabinet or pantry. Together with the Essentials Adjustable Over-the-Counter Towel Bars available at Dollar Tree for a cool $1.25, this easy and practical DIY delivers a plastic bag dispenser that not only saves space but keeps your baggies easily within reach. Not bad for a kitchen hack just under $7.

How to assemble your plastic bag dispenser

As the towel bar is adjustable, simply separate it into two parts from the middle. Punch two holes at the top of the box on each side, making sure they are approximately at the same level. Slip the towel holder ends into the holes and reconnect them — this may require a bit of maneuvering to connect the two inside the box. Once assembled, you can proudly hang your plastic bag dispenser on the inside or outside of any cabinet door or kitchen pantry.

If you're unable to hang these towel hangers over the lip of your kitchen cabinet, you can also make do with a piece of sturdy string and Plastic Removable Wall Hooks, which you can also get for $1.25 from Dollar Tree. As in the video above, puncture two holes along the side of the box and substitute the string for the towel hanger. Secure the ends tightly and hang it on the stick-on wall hook, similar to a picture frame.

As this dispenser is quite versatile, you can introduce it into other parts of your home as well. Install one in your garage to organize screws, nails, or bolts in individually labeled packs; hang it in your bathroom to easily put together a makeup, medicine, or toiletry kit for your next trip; and keep one in your home office or studio for storing office or arts and crafts supplies.
