What Makes WD-40 Degreaser & Cleaner Pods Special & Do They Actually Work?

Most people know that WD-40 is way more than just an anti-rust spray and lubricant. There are lots of genius ways to use WD-40 around the home, and it can even be found in the laundry room. WD-40 actually stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula, so apparently, it took a few attempts to get it right! The first aerosol was introduced in 1958. Today, the WD-40 brand has grown to offer a whole family of different products, and WD-40 Degreaser and Cleaner EZ-Pods are the latest additions. There has been a lot of positive feedback, so we wanted to find out what makes them so unique and whether they really work.

WD-40 Degreaser and Cleaner EZ-Pods are radically different from other WD-40 products. Rather than coming as a spray or in a tin, they are supplied in soft packs similar to those used for dishwashers or washing machines. Inside are the transparent EZ-Pods. Recommended use is to dissolve them in a spray bottle of plain tap water (warm is best). The company's own WD-40 Spray Applicator is available, but any similar container will do. For large volumes, the pods can be dropped into buckets or used in power washers. One of the key benefits of using the EZ-Pods is that the strength of the degreaser can be increased simply by dissolving more pods.

What are WD-40 EZ-Pods like out in the real world?

WD-40 Degreaser and Cleaner EZ-Pods promise great versatility. According to the company, they are "safe to use on stovetops, microwaves, backsplashes" and "plastics, rubber, neoprene, stainless steel, carbon fiber, copper, aluminum, chrome, and painted areas." So it appears they are equally good, whether removing cooking grease or cleaning the lawnmower.

WD-40's own website provides many 5-star custom reviews, but for independent feedback, we turned to popular online retailers. Over at The Home Depot, Rosiep68 was characteristically pleased: "It removes tough stains caked on grease safe from multiple surfaces. No harmful fumes or odors and it's just amazing. I absolutely love this." At Amazon, Kris used it to clean solar panels and get what he called "critter crud" off his boat. Nancy C. used it on shower caulk. Both gave 5-star ratings. A few buyers weren't so happy. David G. said it wouldn't clean his motorcycle chain, and another Amazon customer said it failed to get the grease off a gas oven, but these less-favorable reviews are by far the minority. For most people and most applications, WD-40 Degreaser and Cleaner EZ-Pods seem to work great.
