Elevate The Look Of A Basic IKEA BESTA TV Stand With A Few Simple Updates

IKEA's BESTA TV stand is a stellar base for several DIY projects; you can even turn the unit into a luxurious built-in fireplace or a rustic entryway bench. This time around, we're upgrading the basic stand into a chic, modern cabinet. By adding black metal half-moon pulls and six slim table legs, you can turn two white BESTA shelf units with oak BESTA top panels into a pretty and practical multicolor console. With just a few accessories, the basic TV stand becomes an elegant furniture piece that you can style in any room. We love a DIY that is simple and customizable.

Although this design stacks two BESTA units side-by-side, you can use just one or more to create the perfect-sized piece for your space. You don't have to stick with white cabinets either. The BESTA TV stand is also available in black-brown, white oak-stained, and dark gray. These neutral hues support the sleek, modern design of this DIY. The same goes for revamping the countertops. To stay true to this project's modern, multicolor look, we suggest a contrasting color or design for the top panel, hardware, and the cabinets. However, you can embrace any color or pattern you like by painting or covering each piece with peel-and-stick wallpaper.

How to upgrade your BESTA TV stand into a modern console

Head to IKEA to pick up two BESTA shelf units for $70 each and two BESTA top panels for $50 each, then you're ready transform them into a high-end statement piece. To upgrade your IKEA BESTA cabinets for a luxurious look, first build the units and paint or wrap the cabinets if you desire. Then, arrange the assembled shelf units side-by-side and on their backs, so you have easy access to the underside of the TV stands. Secure the BESTA units together using two support legs, such as these Antrader 10-inch furniture legs. Install one on either edge of where the two cabinets meet. This will combine the two separate units into one long TV stand and bolster the connection. Next, add two table legs on either end of the console. You can use the same table legs or try something new. Afterward, attach the handle pulls to the edge of the cabinet doors. Handles like these Jiozermi half moon cabinet pulls were used for this DIY. Lastly, secure the BESTA top panel on top of the BESTA cabinet with wood glue.

Now you have a chic modern console you can use as a TV stand, entryway table, or stylish storage cupboard. If you want to switch things up further, you can forgo the legs to create unique floating storage with the IKEA BESTA. This twist takes a little more DIY skill as you'll need to mount the TV stand with a BESTA suspension rail onto the wall first, using screws and anchors to drill the unit in place. You'll lose the luxury of being able to move the console anywhere you like, but it will be a stylish, ultramodern piece with a built-in feel.
