Will Using The Scrub Daddy Hack On Your Floors Cause Damage? Here's What We Know
Leave it to TikTokers to get creative with cleaning products, from cleaning toilets with bars of soap to wiping countertops with oven cleaner. Sometimes it's better to simply use cleaning products as intended — these hacks often come with the risk of damage, residue, or other issues. But others are harmless and even useful. This Scrub Daddy cleaning hack falls into the latter category.
The hack, popular on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, involves placing a Scrub Daddy into the middle of a mop, usually an O-Cedar brand mop ($49.97 on Amazon). The sponges happen to be just the right size to stay in place during vigorous mopping sessions, and their abrasive texture helps get rid of sticky spills that mopping alone might not quite remove. If your floors still look dirty after mopping, it could be worth a try. While some users social media comments are worried that the abrasiveness could scratch hardwood floors, according to Scrub Daddy, there's no need to worry about that with the sponge's signature material.
Scrub Daddy is safe for multiple materials
Scrub Daddy's main claim to fame (aside from all the smiley faces) is a unique material that stays hard under cold water and turns soft with hot water. The material is called FlexTexture, and Scrub Daddy says it's tested to be "scratch-free on over a dozen different surfaces." That includes common floor materials like wood, ceramic or porcelain tile, and laminate. To be safe, some people use a Scrub Mommy instead of a Scrub Daddy for the floor cleaning hack since it has a softer foam side. You can also work with hot water to keep the texture of a Scrub Daddy softer.
Though damage isn't a big risk, there are a couple of other things to keep in mind before trying this hack. One is that Scrub Daddies aren't designed to be used with harsh chemicals like bleach, as the material may wear your sponge down faster, so choose your floor cleaning solution accordingly. Also, if you don't already own a Scrub Daddy and O-Cedar mop, don't buy them just for this hack — Scrub Daddy makes its own mops that you can get instead. There's the $20 Mop Daddy Butterfly Mop and the $25 Mop Daddy Roller Mop, both of which have a strip of FlexTexture for scrubbing stains.
