Create The Most Adorable Mushroom Lamp With An Easy Dollar Tree Diy
Take a look at Pinterest and Instagram for cute decor inspiration and you'll find one theme all over every craft: mushrooms. Adorable mushroom decorations are now all the rage, and lots of us are looking to deck our halls with as many shrooms as possible. One of our favorite ways we've seen this trend play out is with mushroom lamps that look perfect in any room. Check out these mushroom lamps from Pottery Barn Teen, for instance. These darling little fungi decorations would look perfect on a bookshelf, bedside table, or desk. But at $99 a pop, these aren't in the budget for most of us. Luckily, you can make your own shroom piece without having to become a master glass blower or learn how to wire a lamp. Basically all you'll do is combine a vase, bowl, and LED puck light from Dollar Tree to create your unique lamp.
Dollar Tree DIY hacks are wonderful because they allow you to repurpose premade objects and just assemble them into something totally new, which is the case here. To make a mushroom lamp, you'll need one Thick-Bottom Clear Glass Cooler, a Clear Glass Bowl, reusable double-sided tape, and a remote-controlled color-changing LED light puck. If you can't find the LED light at Dollar Tree, you can order the six-pack of BLS LED Puck Lights with Remote Control from Amazon for about $17. To personalize your mushroom lamp and give it some character, we recommend using a textured spray paint.
How to make a DIY mushroom lamp
Now that you've gathered your materials, we'll walk you through how to use them. The tall glass is an ideal mushroom stem with its gentle curves, and the glass bowl will be your mushroom cap. Of course you can leave these as plain glass, but it will be very easy to see the puck inside the lamp. That's why we recommend spray painting the glass and bowl with a textured spray paint. However, only do this on the inside of each piece and add just a sheer coat so the light can still come through. After you've applied the spray paint, allow it to dry overnight.
Finally, you can assemble your lamp. Your puck light will be battery-powered, so you need to be able to pop it in and out of the mushroom cap lid. That's why we recommend using double-sided tape to attach it if it doesn't have reusable self-adhesive in order to take it down and replace the batteries as needed. From there, just attach your mushroom cap lamp shade to your glass and use your remote control to turn the light off and on, as well as to change between multiple colors.
A few things to keep in mind for this project: if your spray paint isn't adhering to the glasses, you may want to lightly sand the surfaces to make it easier to stick. Additionally, those with children or pets may want to take a precaution and place a heavy stone or two underneath the tall glass to prevent it from tipping over.
