The Beautiful Fall Shelf Sitter That Comes From A Festive Dollar Tree DIY
One perk of Halloween and Thanksgiving is that the colors can seamlessly blend when it comes to decorations. While Halloween obviously leans into the spooky side of fall, so many designs overlap (think pumpkins, fall foliage, color scheme), which means creating clever knick knacks for both these holidays — that will last until December — is actually quite simple! If you love to DIY, why not make a fall shelf sitter that can stay through the autumn months? This is just another adorable Dollar Tree DIY that will get your home ready for fall without spending a fortune, and you're basically getting two holiday decor pieces in one. By painting, stacking, and adhering a few blocks with some festive fall foliage (and a foam pumpkin or two), you can create the easiest shelving additions for the autumn season.
Your supplies may vary, but Dollar Tree usually has all the necessities for last-minute fall decor. Dollar Tree's small wood blocks are great for pasting small lettering on, like these Amazon Wooden Letters ($17.99 for 592 pieces), and you can write out whatever you want to greet your friends and family. You may want to pick up some seasonal paint colors from Dollar Tree, too, like orange, brown, red, and yellow. Painting the blocks will instantly turn them into a more festive aesthetic for the shelf decor, so pick the color scheme you prefer and coat the entire block in your chosen paints. Allow these to dry fully. Pick up some faux Dollar Tree foliage, and use any leftovers to create a cozy fall planter after you've finished this craft.
Paint and adhere or velcro your decor together!
You also want to pick up a plaque or wooden base from Dollar Tree, which will become the base for your entire craft. The larger the base, the more room you will have to add small accessories, but you can keep it simple on a smaller plaque if you prefer. If your local Dollar Tree is out of their wooden plaques, visit Amazon to pick up a pack of four Creative Hobbies Unfinished Wood Plaques ($9.94). These will need to be painted as well, or you can stain them for a more natural finish. Once both your base and blocks are dry, you can begin to adhere the lettering to the "front" square of your blocks. If you want multiple messages, why not add different letters that can create other phrases to the other sides, too? Paint the letters a different color so they are more noticeable, or stain them, too. Use wood glue or superglue to stick them on your blocks and let them dry.
You can get creative with your foliage and fall additions for the remaining space on your plaque. A small hollow or foam pumpkin makes a great base to stick faux flowers in, or you can cut out some of the foam and glue a small faux tea light inside. Paint a Jack-O-Lantern onto the pumpkin to make it more Halloween-themed, and leave the other side blank so you can swap it after the spooky season. Instead of gluing the pumpkin down, add self-adhesive Velcro to pull it on and off. Your last step is to stack the blocks on top of one another to spell out one festive word, or you can add small cuts of Velcro to change these, too!
