DIY Affordable & Stylish Cabinet Handles Using A Wooden Jar Lid Hack

There are many different types of cabinet hardware. Some add a modern look while others give a more rustic charm, but one thing is constant: Purchasing these handles isn't always affordable. Luckily, with this DIY hack, you can give your cabinets stylish handles within your budget. All you have to do is purchase jars with wooden lids to get started.

TikTok creator @katrina_leeee made a simple video showing how to pull off this design. Start with glass jars with wooden lids, and if present, remove the plastic sealing rim from the wood. Choose the size of the lid based on how large you want the handles to be. Then, find the center of the lid and mark it with a pencil. The creator does this by folding a circular piece of paper in half, but you can also use a ruler to get an accurate measurement. Draw a straight line through your marks, which will be where you cut the wood in half to create two semi-circular handles. Next, using a saw, cut the circle along the line you drew. Attach the handles to your drawer using glue, and your new design will be complete!

Match the handles to your doors

Making this project fit your style is easy. If you love the rustic look, you can leave the wood as is or stain it to match the rest of your furniture. Just check out these helpful tips savvy DIYers should know before using wood stain, lest you make a mistake. Want a metallic look? Use gold spray paint. You can paint these lids any color to match your style, in truth — but before you paint, take a moment to sand the edges of your design to prevent any splinters when opening your cabinets.

This wooden jar lid hack is an easy way to add a bit of style to your cabinets and is much simpler than making the wooden rounds yourself. If you don't want extra glass jars lying around your house, you can use an unfinished wood circle instead. Just make sure you choose one of the thicker ones to allow you to easily grab the handle. Attach with ½ inch copper couplings and some screws if you want to extend the handle from the door a little more. Or, if you do choose to use the wooden jar lids, use the extra jars for another project, like an easy DIY that turns mason jars into the cutest craft room storage.
