Good Bones' Mina Starsiak Hawk Is A Stickler When It Comes To Small Design Details

As the star of HGTV's "Good Bones," Mina Starsiak Hawk breathes new life into old homes using real estate expertise and impeccable interior design. In a reel, Starsiak Hawk revealed one of her biggest bathroom design pet peeves: gold faucets paired with chrome overflows.

This design faux-pax may come as a surprise, as mixing metals in home decor has been an accepted design trend in recent years, and one utilized by Mina Starsiak Hawk herself, as well as some of her fellow HGTV celebrity designers. But, for Starsiak Hawk, mixed metals for the bathroom sink and overflow ring are a no-go. Below, we break down the reason the "Good Bones" star doesn't like this small mismatched bathroom detail and explain her philosophy surrounding how to use mixed metals in the home. One of Mina Starsiak Hawk's "biggest"  no-goes is a bathroom detail that isn't really that big at all. The star doesn't care for gold faucets paired with chrome overflows because of her philosophy surrounding mixed metals. For one, she never uses chrome in her homes. And, while she's not opposed to mixing metals, Hawk has previously shared that the trend requires intentionality, purpose, and attention to detail. For example, Hawk is a fan of combining matte black bathroom fixtures with gold framed mirrors and cabinet pulls, or matte gold faucets with matte black hardware. But, she won't utilize mixed metal combinations without visual interest and depth, such as brushed nickel and gold. 

Another important rule to follow when designing bathrooms for the "Good Bones" star is ensuring that all metallic hardware has the same style and finish, so you won't find her mixing matte with shine. If your bathroom vanity has a mismatched faucet and overflow cover, Mina Starsiak Hawk's fix is simple. As Hawk does, you can purchase a six-pack of white overflow covers for around $6 on Amazon for an easy swap. It's also possible to remove the mismatched cover without adding another in its place.
