Add Drawers To Your Desk On A Budget Using A Few Dollar Tree Must-Haves

Search any home furniture site for desks to give your home office a makeover, and you'll have your pick of chic options with clean lines and minimalist designs. This modern desk trend may give your workspace a serene vibe, but it leaves you with one important question: What are you supposed to do with all your desk stuff? Lucky for us, TikToker @wondercurlceo came up with a genius and frugal hack by attaching drawers from Dollar Tree underneath the desk. These clear drawers are a discreet way to add subtle storage to your sleek workspace.

Adding Dollar Tree drawers to your desk is easy. First, double up two pieces of double-sided foam tape and attach them to the center of the top of the drawer. Then, apply hot glue along the top edges of the drawer, and press the drawer in place under the desk. The TikToker also recommends using clamps to support the drawers as they dry. You can grab hot glue sticks and clamps at Dollar Tree, too. This simple hack is especially handy for standing desks and height-adjustable desks, as it allows the drawers to stay just under the desktop for easy access without worrying about it bumping against your legs and is a smart way to use Dollar Store storage bins to organize your home.

Customizing your desk drawers

This hack is a great starting point to enhance the functionality of your minimalist desk, and the possibilities are endless. For starters, consider what size drawers you need. The drawers we found at Dollar Tree are 5-inch squares, so they are too small for standard pens. If you like this hack but need something bigger, try Vtopmart's Clear Stackable Storage Drawers from Amazon, which are 7 ½ inches by 12 inches and are $26 for a set of two. Larger drawers allow for more organization options, and Dollar Tree drawer organizers are a frugal standby. You could also fit in a couple of these Stori SimpleSort Stackable Clear Drawer Organizer squares to organize your little workspace odds and ends.

Personalizing your desk drawer add-ons is the perfect opportunity to whip out some contact paper decorating hacks. To stick to your desk's minimalist style, use contact paper designs on the outside of the drawers that match your desk for a seamless look. Or, go with a fun design to add a pop of style. Plus, while stackable drawers are commonly acrylic, this hack can work with other drawer materials, too. The key is applying the right adhesive so they don't fall off. We recommend using a sturdy method like screws or an epoxy. And, be sure to select the proper adhesive for the materials you are working with – a polyurethane-based adhesive for a wooden desk with metal drawers or a PVA glue for wooden drawers, for example.
