Add Halloween Charm To Your Kitchen With An Adorable Ghost Pendant Light Trick

Lights are an integral part of Halloween. While people who turn their porch lights off on Halloween night discourage trick-or-treaters from ringing their doorbell, a house sporting spooky lights and lanterns is golden in the book of sugar goblins looking to line their buckets (and stomachs!) with delicious candy. But why settle for only dressing your home's exterior when you have plenty of opportunity to decorate your interior lighting features to feel the spirit (pun unintended) of All Hallows' Eve? Take inspiration from TikTok creator @brookecriddle_ and transform your kitchen pendant lights into a pair of impossibly cute ghosts.

To make your kitchen ready for fall, you'll need some white fabric because, apparently, ghosts tend to wear white when treading the same plane as the living (or so the innumerable movies and theatrical shows have made us believe). A white tablecloth or some gauzy cheesecloth will work perfectly for your DIY ghost pendant lights. Just ensure the fabric isn't too heavy or stiff. You'll also need a piece of black craft paper or felt to give your ghost a haunting pair of eyes and a macabre mouth. If you're confident drawing on the sheet, a Sharpie could work, too. Grab a sharp pair of scissors and some double-sided tape and you're all set to channel some Halloween charm over your kitchen island.

How to DIY a ghost pendant light this Halloween

Start by cutting squares from your fabric. Leave the hem as is or give it a fun shape using your scissors. Let a couple of threads dangle from the ends if you're going for an extra ghoulish look. You also want to create a slit through the middle of your square to make it easier to cocoon your light fixtures in the fabric and convincingly dress them for their ghostly fall duties. Drape your cloth squares around the lights, then create eyes and a mouth from the craft paper, and stick them onto the cloth with some tape. Voilà! Your ghost pendant lights are ready to wow guests and residents alike.

Word of warning, always be careful when combining a heat and light source like a bulb and flammable fabric. This is because the heat from any incandescent and halogen bulbs will get trapped within the cloth and could spell a potential fire hazard if the lights are left on. Fortunately, incandescent and halogen bulbs are being phased out in the U.S. and many other parts of the world, so you've probably got LED bulbs in your pendant lights. But, on the off chance that you haven't yet had to change the bulbs, check to make sure they're LEDs before decorating them. If you have yet to make the switch from incandescent light bulbs, but still want to dress them up for Halloween, we'd advise not turning them on. Finally, don't do this DIY to any pendant lights that happen to be hanging above a range top, or close to any other heat sources, like patio grills and candles.
