Joanna Gaines Says These Decor Tricks Will Add Warmth To Your Space

Joanna Gaines is the Queen of Cozy. Whether she's living out her herbarium dreams at the Magnolia Silos or pressing flowers tucked away in her recently overhauled rose cottage, Gaines knows a thing or two about how to make a space feel comfortable and inviting. Although she may be best known for helping to usher in the era of farmhouse greiges, Gaines has since embraced richer color palettes throughout her Fixer Upper-inspired paint line and within her own dream property, a 19th-century farmhouse situated on 40 acres of land. Color is one of the easiest ways to add warmth to a space. "Rich tones and dark accents make a strong statement all while creating a very comfortable environment," Gaines wrote in "Homebody: A Guide To Creating Spaces You Never Want To Leave." She adds, "Although dark paint colors may feel intimidating, they can add an immediate dose of warmth."

From using an inky dark green on the tongue and groove paneling in her cottage, similar to Cottage Grove from her Magnolia Home collection, to deep blue in the famous Shotgun House from Season 3 of Fixer Upper, coating walls with a bold color is one of Gaines' go-to decor hacks that instantly makes any room feel warmer.

Texture and metallic accents can also add a cozy vibe

Along with using Joanna Gaines' smart design approach for cozy seating, if you want to make your home feel warm as temperatures start to drop, keep her advice about using texture and metallic accents in mind. In her book "Homebody," Gaines suggested that adding rugs under tables can provide subtle texture that warms up even the most modern spaces or neutral palettes. Incorporating metallics can also up the cozy factor. "Copper accents are a warm, classic addition," she adds.

Don't forget that indirect lighting can make any room feel cozier than ever, too. The Magnolia founder has curated a lighting collection that includes woven shades, earthy clay lamp bases, and milk glass. You can get a similar look for less on Amazon with a Blume 66" Tall Arc Floor Lamp in Brushed Brass and Milk White for $84 or the Nourison 23" Ceramic Pot Table Lamp for $76.

When Gaines first released "Homebody," she told People Magazine that it felt like her life's work. Showcasing every possible design style, from dark farmhouse rooms with exposed brick fireplaces to quiet retreats filled with light, she reminded home decor enthusiasts that "it doesn't matter what season it is outside [when rooms] remain warm and cozy within."
