This Spooky Jar Upcycle Is The Mystical Halloween Decor You've Been Looking For

Once you've fished the last pickle out of the jar, set the empty glass container aside for a creepy decor idea that will get you inspired for Halloween. Borrow YouTuber @TheNavagePatch's idea of whipping up a "pickled" skeleton in a glowing jar. To pull off the DIY as closely to the video as possible, you'll need a 1-gallon jar or larger with a wide mouth. A clear-sided iced tea pitcher could stand in for a repurposed jar if necessary; just turn the jar around so the spout isn't on display. Prep your jars with a surprise kitchen staple you can use to remove pesky labels.

Load up your Amazon cart with BYMORE water-activated clear water beads, a plastic human skeleton, and Sunnyes submersible remote controlled LED lights that can change color. Check the measurements of the skeleton before you buy it to make sure the pieces will fit through the mouth of your jar. You can probably find the perfect size online, but any Halloween decor from your local craft store or even dollar store will do the trick.

Use a bit of glue or tape to attach the lights to the bottom of the jar so they won't move as you pour in the water beads; the type of adhesive you use shouldn't matter, since the water beads will hold them in place once the jar is full. Fill the jar with activated water beads, and place the bones in the beads in a spooky arrangement.

Show off some other specimens

Put a different spin on this project by suspending smaller skeletons, insect toys, body parts, or creepy dolls in a collection of smaller jars. Standard pickle jars tend to hold about 24 ounces and have wide mouths, making them ideal for filling with plastic oddities. Use one LED light per jar, fill with water beads, and place in a fake severed body part or two. If you're not too squeamish and want to go for a major gross-out, show off some bloody organ decorations. Or, if the human anatomy isn't your jam, fill a jar with life-size plastic tarantulas or some rubber versions of deadly snakes.

You can reuse old candle jars or jam jars for miniature frights. Tuck this collection of mythological and realistic animal skulls from Bbiamsleep into eight small jars. Bring the science lab into your living room with tiny jars full of plastic bugs and lizards, or show off all 24 glowing eyes in this package from GiftExpress, one to a jar. Bring a bit of horror movie into your decor with jars of doll heads from Libima. Or, if you're more cute than creepy (or just don't want to terrify tiny trick-or-treaters), jar up some adorable Halloween-themed decor instead.
