This easy-to-master DIY will have your storage options looking as pretty as they are functional. This is a great chance to make use of glass food containers that are destined for the trash or recycling, as well as a fun way to make good use of old candle jars, thrifted jars, and classic Mason jars that you may have lying around from canning projects. You can also use it to stylishly upcycle Dollar Tree glass jars.

Decorating glass jars for storage

To create permanent texture on the glass, use round dabs of hot glue and then paint over them with acrylic paint. Create flower petal accents, leaves, and stems on the surface of the glass with acrylic paint markers, like these Posco Markers from Amazon that allow you to draw on glass or ceramic surfaces. You can create a number of 3D decorative motifs with glue, including curls, squiggles, cross hatching, and more. Or, make a floral design on the glass and then paint over it with chalk paint for a more subtle textured look.

Use these jars to store brushes, pencils, washi tape, and other supplies. Smaller jars are great for holding little things like clips, brads, pins, and other smaller elements, while larger jars are great for stashing embroidery thread, spools of thread, and other sewing supplies. Use the jars on the surface of your work table or desk to keep things close at hand, or suspend them on the wall using a pipe clamp screwed into a piece of wood that holds the mouth of the jar in place. You can even add magnets to the back of the jars and stick them onto a metal pegboard or the side of a cabinet for easy storage up and out of the way to keep your craft room spick and span.
