Cinnamon Colored Decor Ideas To Bring A Cozy Fall Vibe Into Your Home

One of the best things about the changing seasons is getting to give your home a little autumnal revamp. Of course, you'll want to pull out the Halloween decor by the end of October, but what about making design choices that will look good all the way from the beginning of September to Thanksgiving? The answer is to use one color more than the rest, and that's cinnamon. Cinnamon is a brown shade that has red undertones, but it can either lean warmer or cooler. It looks great both on its own and alongside other neutrals and more vibrant shades. Items like textiles, furniture, and tabletop accessories can be purchased in the cinnamon color to bring autumnal vibes into your space.

To learn why cinnamon is the ultimate autumn color and how to incorporate this fall home decor trend, we spoke with Erika Dale, an interior designer and founder of Erika Dale Interior Design, in an exclusive interview for House Digest. She says that "The reason cinnamon colored decor works so well for fall decorating is because it spans the entire season and can transition nicely into cooler months. Red, orange, and yellow are a bit more fleeting, feeling already out of date come early November when the leaves have all fallen." Basically, this cozy shade can be displayed for all of autumn. Dale adds, "Brown tones like cinnamon have more longevity to stay relevant all season," and potentially even beyond fall. Dale also says, "Plus, being a neutral, cinnamon tones blend in more seamlessly with most design aesthetics versus trying to inject other autumn hues."

Cinnamon colored textiles are warm and inviting

Luckily, incorporating cinnamon into your home doesn't mean you need to paint the walls or buy expensive artwork. Instead, in an exclusive interview with House Digest, Erika Dale says, "I love adding cinnamon colored textiles to bring warmth and coziness to a space." Textiles can cover a wide range of products, from blankets in the bedroom to pillows on your couch. Dale offers the advice to "Try incorporating brown-toned throw pillows in a (faux) mohair, velvet, or pattern or a chunky knit throw blanket in a cinnamon shade." Dale recommends the Faux Mohair Throw Pillow from Crate & Barrel in the shade Ocher as a starting point. This can be paired with other neutral shades or more vibrant fall shades like plum and orange. For blankets, take a look at H&M's Dark Beige Plaid Throw Blanket. You could also choose cinnamon colored options of our list of cozy throws that will look good in any room in your home.

But don't stop at the blankets and pillows. As Dale reminds us, "Medium toned wicker is also the color of the autumnal spice, so consider adding the texture of woven baskets to hold your cozy pillows and throws or an organic woven table runner to your dining room." These options will add both an aesthetic element and functionality to your home. If you're looking for a table runner, check out the Natural Jute Braided Table Runner by Hearth & Hand with Magnolia at Target.

Tabletop accessories for perfect autumnal displays

"Natural wood tones also pull in the same cinnamon shade," Erika Dale says in an exclusive interview with House Digest, suggesting a simple tabletop addition like "a rustic wood ottoman or coffee table tray with a brown seasonal candle or wood reed diffuser." You can choose a warm-toned wicker tray like the baskets mentioned above or look for something as simple as a medium-toned wooden cutting board such as the Home Beets Acadia Wood Cutting Board from Amazon to stage the perfect autumnal vignette. Dale also points us toward Nest New York's Hearth Three-wick Candle and Reed Diffuser.  Not only do these options both offer a rich woody, smoky scent that's perfect for cozy autumn nights, but they have beautiful glass jars that show off stunning shades of cinnamon. You can also tie a bundle of actual cinnamon sticks with some twine to build out the display even more.

Dale concludes with her last cinnamon decorating tip, saying, "Finally, my favorite way to add a range of warm brown tones to give incredible fall vibes is to fill a cinnamon colored stoneware vase full of dried autumn florals and grasses." For vases, Dale recommends the Tanvecle Brown Ceramic Vase on Amazon and the Fluted Ceramic Taper Vase in Vintage Brown by Hearth & Hand with Magnolia from Target. These would be beautiful on their own, but when stacked with sprigs of pampas grass, cotton stems, cattails, and other florals, you'll be able to create a unique autumn flower display. Build your own bouquet, or take Dale's suggestion and snag the Musunny Dried Flower Bouquet on Amazon.
