The Easy Dollar Tree DIY That's Perfect For Serving Spooky Halloween Treats
Long after you outgrow trick-or-treating, you can keep participating in the fun by decorating your home for Halloween, giving out candy, and hosting celebrations. While you can always serve treats out of the classic pumpkin bucket, that requires people to dig with their hands, which isn't the most appealing at the start of flu season. Instead, consider making your own spooky serving platter. This cute Dollar Tree DIY uses a few budget-friendly items and a bit of E6000 glue.
You'll need three of these ceramic metallic and glow-in-the-dark skull decorations from your local Dollar Tree's Halloween section. Then pick up one of these 10.5-inch black and white stoneware dinner plates, or something similar, also available at Dollar Tree. You can personalize or modify this platter based on your style preferences: With stores in October bursting with Halloween decor, you could use black cats, spiders, or other spooky sculptures instead of skulls, especially if you're willing to spend a bit more. Similarly, you can look for plates with different patterns. Just remember to coordinate the dimensions of all your components.
How to make the DIY
This Halloween DIY project only requires a few simple steps, courtesy of @sheri_wilson_ on Instagram. First position the three skulls (or other decor of your choice) in a triangle to form the platter's base. Then, put a dab of E6000 glue on top of each item. Finally, place the plate on top. Weigh it down with a heavy item such as a book while the glue dries; E6000 takes up to 72 hours to fully cure.
While most of the products mentioned above can be substituted, one item you may not want to swap out is the E6000 glue. It's not available at Dollar Tree, and you'll need to go to a craft or hardware store to purchase it. But it's worth using instead of regular super glue or hot glue for this project. E6000 is strong, durable, and flexible enough to stand up to use on a serving tray, and it's waterproof so you can safely wash your DIY platter by hand. (While reviewers say Dollar Tree's dinner plates stand up to the dishwasher, the same might not be true for ceramic decor that's not intended for eating.)
